Job description

Who We Are:

Every transaction matters. Every Canadian matters. At Interac, we protect both — driving trust, security, and inclusion, so our digital economy thrives.

Founded in 1984, Interac connects Canadians through secure digital payments, advanced identity verification and industry-leading fraud protection. Connecting banks, businesses, and individuals, Interac enables millions to send, receive, and manage money safely and effortlessly every day — across both digital and physical environments.

As the backbone of Canada’s financial ecosystem, Interac facilitates over 20 million transactions daily, supported by trusted partnerships with government and financial institutions. Consistently ranked as Canada’s most reputable financial technology brand, Interac is deeply embedded in the daily lives of Canadians.

Who You Will Work With:

The vacant Leader, Business Development, Merchants role will report to the Head, Client Relationships, Merchants and Acquirers. You will drive growth by leading strategic merchant partnerships and advancing business development initiatives for Interac’ s newly launched product, KONEK. This role is accountable for accelerating merchant adoption, optimizing commercial partnerships, and strengthening market coverage in alignment with Interac’s growth targets.

What You Will Do:

  • Business Development: Identify, negotiate, and manage commercial partnerships with major merchants, middleware providers, payment networks, fintechs, and related entities

  • Build and optimize the merchant acquisition pipeline, turning high-volume and strategically important merchant relationships into multi-year partnerships that include product deployments, co-marketing, joint research, and innovation.

  • Develop and execute go-to-market strategies to launch and promote KONEK with merchants, ensuring alignment with business objectives and market needs.

  • Identify target market segments, define value propositions, and tailor sales approaches to maximise market penetration and revenue growth.

  • Effectively manage the KONEK sales pipeline, overseeing all stages from lead generation through to deal closure, ensuring accurate forecasting and consistent progress towards revenue targets.

  • Collaborate with internal partners to support the delivery and expansion of partnerships through active client engagement, consulting, and cross-selling of products/services to create a comprehensive, deep partnership anchored by a winning vision.

  • Market Intelligence & Strategy: Monitor market trends and competitive landscape to inform merchant strategy. Leverage industry contacts to gather valuable intelligence and extend the reach of Interac products and services.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with internal teams (Product, Innovation, Marcomm, Research, Tech & Ops, Fraud, Finance, Legal) and solutions engineering for pre-sales activities, training, and expansion of merchant partnerships and related business development activities. Ensure role specialization and scalability.

  • Leadership & Team Development: Lead a team of sales and business development professionals, fostering a high-performance culture aligned with Interac’s values. Demonstrate a customer-centric mindset and leverage insights and data to build products/services that meet client needs.

  • Continuous Improvement & Innovation: Challenge the status quo and drive transformational ideas from concept to commercialization. Operate autonomously while defining and delivering priorities amidst ambiguity.

  • Demonstrate an ability to challenge the status quo and take transformational ideas from conceptualization to commercialization.

What You Bring:

  • Eligibility to work for Interac Corp. in Canada in a full-time capacity.

  • Proven experience in strategic merchant partnership management and business development.

  • Proven ability to drive growth in payment or tech sales.

  • Strong knowledge of payments, merchant services, and fintech, including emerging payment technologies and secure transaction trends.

  • Expert knowledge of CRM tools including Salesforce and pipeline management.

  • Excellent collaboration, negotiation, communication, and leadership skills.

  • Minimum 10 years of sales leadership with a track record of driving commercial growth, including 7 years in people management and building high-performance sales teams.

  • Ability to inspire, motivate, and develop sales teams to consistently achieve and exceed targets.

  • Expertise in providing constructive feedback and tailored coaching to enhance individual and team performance.

  • Strong capability in identifying and nurturing talent, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

  • Strategic thinking and practical implementation skills, with deep experience delivering partner programs from idea to execution.

  • Ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships across commercial and merchant segments.

What We’re Offering:

The hiring range for this position is $175,000 to $220,000, and you will also be eligible for our short-term incentive plan. The exact amount will depend on factors such as skills, experience, and job-related knowledge, but Interac’s commitment goes beyond compensation.
