HomeLife Realty Services Inc. is seeking a Junior In-House Counsel with approximately 2 to 4 years of post-call experience to join its Toronto head office. The successful candidate will support a range of legal matters across corporate, commercial, franchise, and regulatory areas.
This role requires strong legal writing ability, sound judgment, and the ability to analyze complex legal issues and translate them into clear, practical guidance for business leaders. The position involves working closely with senior leadership and providing legal guidance on operational and strategic matters affecting the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Corporate and Commercial Matters
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, corporate documents, internal policies, and other legal documentation supporting the organization’s operations.
- Prepare legal memoranda, briefing notes, opinion letters, and other written materials with clarity, accuracy, and precision.
- Support corporate governance initiatives and assist in maintaining regulatory compliance across the organization.
Franchise and Regulatory Support:
- Assist with franchise-related documentation, regulatory requirements, and compliance matters.
- Work collaboratively with division leaders across the organization to provide legal guidance on operational matters affecting franchise and corporate activities.
Legal Research and Advisory Support:
- Conduct legal research and prepare briefing materials to support internal decision-making.
- Assist in the preparation and organization of documentation related to legal matters affecting the organization.
- Provide practical legal guidance to internal stakeholders on regulatory and operational issues.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with leaders across multiple divisions of the organization to support operational initiatives and business objectives.
- Participate in internal and external meetings, including virtual meetings, with professionalism and clarity.
- Contribute to discussions with internal teams and professional advisors across various jurisdictions where appropriate.
Technology and Process Improvement:
- Utilize modern technology to support efficient legal workflows.
- Demonstrate comfort working with digital platforms and legal technologies, including document automation tools and AI-assisted legal research and drafting tools.
- Assist in identifying opportunities to improve legal processes through technology and operational efficiencies.
Qualifications:
- LL.B. or J.D. and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- Approximately 2 to 4 years of post-call experience, ideally gained in a litigation, corporate, commercial, or regulatory environment.
- Demonstrated ability to produce precise, well-reasoned written work with a high level of clarity and attention to detail.
- Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to convey legal concepts clearly in meetings and discussions.
- Strong analytical reasoning and sound practical judgment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and organization.
- Comfort working with technology, digital communication platforms, and modern legal tools.
- Professional, collaborative, and able to work effectively with leaders across multiple divisions.
- Ability to take initiative, manage matters independently, and approach legal issues with practical solutions.
Preferred:
- MBA or other business-related education.
- Experience working with organizations that operate across multiple locations or jurisdictions.
- Experience with franchise law, real estate-related matters, or regulated industries.
