Let’s care for tomorrow.

Your ambitions. Your dreams. Your tomorrow

At Allianz Commercial (AzC), we are the global leader for insuring corporate and specialty risks in the Allianz Group. Whether it’s aircraft, satellites, the world’s biggest ships and tallest building, cyber-attacks, or climate change impacts, AzC has the major risks covered when it comes to protecting businesses.

We are looking for a Risk Consultant who specializes in mining to support our Natural Resources line of business with a focus on heavy industrial manufacturing. This role is hybrid based in our Toronto, Ontario office to service our clients in the region.

Your Team

Allianz Commercial specializes in providing comprehensive and customized insurance and inspection products, services, and solutions for companies in the mining and construction industries. We have a wealth of technical excellence in managing engineering and ore mining risks around the world. We are well equipped to meet the most demanding challenges in the mining and extraction insurance landscape and are actively addressing climate change across all segments.

We are focused on expanding our presence in the ore mining sector. From large operational mining sites, to the most challenging construction projects, we provide comprehensive insurance and inspection solutions during both the construction and operational phases.

Our Allianz Risk Consulting (ARC) team is made up of experienced engineers from a wide range of technical and scientific disciplines. The team provides a flexible range of risk consulting services, from natural hazards, fire safety, and human and organizational risk factors to in-depth analysis of industry operations, and financial exposures, across all industry sectors and risks. We also focus on delivering bespoke training plans to help our clients to optimize risk management procedures in the long term.

The Impact You Will Have

Reporting to the Natural Resources Risk Consulting Manager, you will be responsible for providing technical support and risk analysis services to Engineering Underwriters and Clients.

Some of your specific responsibilities could include:

  • Advise Underwriters regarding operational and construction risks, detailing risk exposures, loss estimates and risk improvement proposals.
  • Assist Allianz Underwriting in risk selection and retention.
  • Evaluate Risk Information and perform desktop review (DTR) risk analyses for new business opportunities for delivery to underwriting.
  • Maintain technical knowledge and assist in the development of technical materials for the use of engineers and underwriters.
  • Contribute to developments within the Allianz Risk Consulting global network and deliver technical presentations at internal conferences and seminars.
  • Develop and maintain professional working relationships with AzC underwriting, Business Development, Market Management & Claims personnel along with Co-workers, Clients and Brokers
  • Perform desk top risk analysis, field surveys, and virtual surveys of various mining operations using ARC proprietary risk analysis and reporting tool, GREAT. Understand machinery and property loss exposures during commercial operation, along with construction testing phases of mine development. Have a strong understanding of business interruption loss exposures due to property and/or machinery breakdown perils.
  • Handle assigned accounts from an entrepreneurial perspective. Work collaboratively with Underwriters in a fast-paced environment, meeting tight deadlines. Perform occasional field surveys as necessary, develop and distribute internal and external loss control reports and recommendations; review/analyze third party reports and recommendations for incorporation in Annual Account Summaries as needed; develop professional written correspondence as necessary. Meet reporting deadlines in accordance with departmental performance objectives.
  • Stay current with technical developments in mining through attendance at relevant industry seminars/conferences, collaboration with peers and Allianz expert groups, and self-study. Contribute to the growth and improvement of technical strengths of local and global peers through the development of technical articles, write papers, etc. along with close affiliation with Allianz Risk Consulting global expert teams.
  • Assist AzC UW and ARC peers and global network with respect to ongoing or specific projects. Support technical training presentations for internal and external clients as required/appropriate. Be a primary resource in the development and training and mentoring of new peers in North America.
