Location: Toronto – 4 days WFO
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Software Developer with deep expertise in C and C++. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and optimizing enterprise-grade applications, particularly in legacy systems and high-performance computing environments. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively across cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
Application Development & Maintenance
- Design, develop, and maintain software applications using C, C++, COBOL, and other mainframe technologies.
- Enhance and optimize legacy systems for performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Perform code reviews, debugging, and troubleshooting of complex systems.
System Integration
- Integrate mainframe applications with distributed systems and modern platforms.
- Develop APIs and interfaces for data exchange between legacy and modern systems.
Database Management
- Work with DB2 for data modeling, query optimization, and performance tuning.
- Ensure data integrity and security across applications.
Job Control & Batch Processing
- Develop and manage JCL scripts for batch processing and job scheduling.
- Monitor and resolve issues in production batch jobs.
Documentation & Compliance
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, user guides, and support manuals.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and internal policies (e.g., security, data privacy).
Collaboration & Leadership
- Collaborate with business analysts, QA teams, and project managers to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Mentor junior developers and contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical Expertise
- 6–8 years of hands-on experience in C, C++, COBOL, JCL, and DB2.
- Strong understanding of mainframe architecture and z/OS environment.
- Experience with debugging tools (e.g., Xpediter, Abend-AID) and version control systems.
Analytical & Problem-Solving
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues.
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and agile methodologies.
Communication
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to translate technical concepts into business-friendly language.
