At Steer North America, our vision is a world where the critical services and infrastructure that move our communities work better for all of us. Our mission is to be the leading consultancy shaping the future of how people live, work, and connect. We are driven by a passion for creating positive impact through our expertise in critical services and infrastructure. We strive to unlock the potential of our clients and their organizations to help people, places, and economies thrive. For a world in motion, complex challenges deserve powerful solutions, global intelligence and local partnership, technical expertise and independent advice.

We are seeking a dynamic senior leader to drive Steer's business growth in Canada, strengthen and expand our Canadian consulting team. This role is integral to shaping our presence in Canada, deepening relationships with public and private sector transportation clients, and ensuring that our offerings in strategy, policy, planning, and design are market‑leading and future‑focused.

Location: Any Canadian Steer office location (Toronto or Vancouver)

Reports to: Executive President, North America

Role Overview

  • Driving Canadian revenue growth by developing and executing a Canada‑specific go‑to‑market strategy in Steer's current and emerging business lines.
  • Building and developing the Canadian team, ensuring the right talent, capabilities, and leadership are in place to meet current and future market opportunities.
  • Canadian Business Development and Client Leadership: develop and execute a business development strategy to expand Steer's Canadian market presence; identify, cultivate, and maintain relationships with key public and private sector decision‑makers across Canada; anticipate and respond to Canadian market trends, regulatory changes, and funding opportunities; lead the preparation and delivery of winning proposals and presentations tailored to Canadian clients; negotiate and secure high‑value contracts, ensuring alignment with Steer's commercial objectives; oversee project delivery to align with client expectations and mentor project managers to successful and profitable outcomes; build and scale the Canadian consulting team to meet growing demand and strategic priorities; recruit, mentor, and develop high‑performing staff across service areas, with a focus on leadership succession and specialized expertise; foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high‑performance culture within the Canadian offices; ensure staff have opportunities for career growth and exposure to challenging, high‑impact projects; work closely with other senior leaders across North America to coordinate business development efforts and share market intelligence; represent Steer at Canadian industry conferences, government roundtables, and other public forums; promote Steer's brand through professional networks and speaking opportunities.

Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Master's preferred).

Experience

  • 15+ years in transportation consulting, with significant leadership responsibility for business development and team growth in Canada.
  • Proven track record of securing large‑scale consulting assignments in Canadian markets.
  • Experience advising clients on transportation strategy, policy, and planning issues.

Skills and Attributes

  • Strong Canadian transportation market network.
  • Proven leadership in building and scaling teams.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to execute tactically.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship‑building skills.
  • Deep understanding of Canadian transportation policy, funding, and delivery models.
  • Willingness to travel within Canada and to the US.

Benefits

In Canada, we offer a competitive package of benefits including private medical, dental, and vision insurance, a group Share Incentive Plan, a 3% RRSP contribution and a discretionary annual bonus (dependent upon individual and company performance). Additionally, we offer up to 47 paid days off – 22 vacation days, 13 public holidays, 2 volunteering days, and 10 sick days – as well as a bi‑annual performance review process. Our evaluation processes are designed around merit and capability. We don't select people on the prestige of their educational establishments or other background information. Our interviewers are trained on how to manage selection processes fairly and without bias, and to conduct processes which do not selectively appeal more to one or more demographic to the detriment of any others.

Steer is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes all candidates and will provide accommodation, now or throughout your employment, if needed. In our commitment to inclusivity in the workplace, Steer has welcomed the creation of various Employee Resource Groups, dedicated to ensuring the support, progression, and well‑being of all employees.

Part‑time and remote working applications will not be considered for this role.
