Type of job

The Special Education Pedagogical Advisor provides advice, training and support to new teachers at Vanguard School. More specifically, this position involves choosing and using teaching approaches that meet students' needs, understanding and developing intervention plans, and understanding and implementing support measures for services provided to students with learning disabilities.

The pedagogical advisor is also involved in welcoming new teachers, and implementing and developing their professional and classroom management skills.

Responsibilities

École Vanguard's special education pedagogical advisor is a specialist with a three-year mandate to support new teachers at École Vanguard whose primary expertise is usually special education.

Their work takes the form of the following actions :

  • Facilitate workshops and training sessions for adaptation and pedagogical development needs related to winning practices in special education;
  • Accompany and support new teachers on an individual and collective basis to support their daily actions;
  • Observe new teachers in the classroom and give them feedback;
  • Support new teachers in developing and implementing intervention plans for their students;
  • Support new teachers in implementing the adaptations and support measures required for each of their students;
  • Support new teachers in adopting winning teaching practices;
  • Collaborate in the development of varied learning situations that emphasize pedagogical flexibility and differentiation, and support experimentation in the classroom;
  • Provide teachers with tools for assessing learning (support them in designing, developing or adapting assessment tools);
  • Link concepts, terminologies, vocabulary and tools used with students;
  • Articulate certain current practices (e.g. workload, the notion of student autonomy);
  • Modeling teaching strategies;
  • Develop digital skills by integrating digital thinking into its support.
  • Collaborate with sector managers and pedagogical departments by communicating observations regarding the development and needs of each new teacher;
  • Collaborate with all members of the Innovation, Success and Pedagogical Services team in implementing the service offer and evaluating results;
  • Advise the Coordinator and the Director of Innovation, Success and Pedagogical services on issues relating to the new employee support program.
  • Supporting school teachers in differentiating teaching according to inclusive principles.
  • Support a learning-centered approach to assessment.

Knowledge and skills

  • A university degree in a field relevant to the job, particularly education.
  • A minimum of five (5) years experience working with students with learning disabilities;
  • Excellent command of spoken and written French and English;
  • Know the main legal frameworks that govern our actions in schools and how to apply them, including the Ministry of Education's Special Education Policy;
  • Know how to mobilize, collaborate, communicate, convey a vision, support, coach, plan, analyze, evaluate and regulate;
  • Good synthesis skills;
  • Ability to prioritize;
  • Focus on continuous improvement;
  • Supporting professional development;
  • Knowledge of Google Suite, Word Q, Lexibar, MF system, Ministry sanction rules.
  • Excellent knowledge of teaching and intervention strategies specific to students with learning disabilities or difficulties.

Salary :

In accordance with public sector scales and École Vanguard's salary policy.
