Chief Medical Officer Job in Canada 2026 | King Animal Hospital

King Animal Hospital in Ontario, Canada, is offering an exceptional executive-level opportunity for an experienced equine veterinary leader to join its rapidly expanding specialist hospital as Chief Medical Officer – Equine. This role is ideal for internationally trained veterinarians seeking long-term career progression in Canada with full immigration and relocation support.

As the hospital prepares to open a major new Equine Emergency and Colic Facility, this appointment represents a rare chance to shape the future of equine emergency and referral medicine within one of Canada’s most advanced private veterinary hospitals.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Medical Officer – Equine will provide strategic, clinical, and operational leadership across all equine services. The role combines hands-on senior clinical influence with executive-level governance, ensuring world-class medical standards, patient safety, and sustainable service growth. You will also lead the clinical planning and readiness for the hospital’s new emergency facility while mentoring and developing a multidisciplinary specialist team.

About the Hiring Firm

King Animal Hospital is a 60,000 sq ft Equine and Small Animal Referral and Emergency Hospital located on a 50-acre campus in King City, Ontario, with a new 21,000 sq ft dedicated Equine Emergency Facility under development.

The hospital employs over 250 professionals and operates with some of the most advanced diagnostic and surgical technologies in the region, including MRI, CT, scintigraphy, fluoroscopy, and fully equipped surgical suites. The organization is privately owned, innovation-driven, and deeply committed to clinical excellence, staff wellbeing, and long-term investment in specialist care.

Responsibilities

  • Set, uphold, and continuously improve medical standards, protocols, and best practices across all equine services
  • Provide senior clinical leadership, mentorship, and governance to surgeons, clinicians, and technical teams
  • Support complex case management, emergency decision-making, and quality assurance processes
  • Lead clinical strategy and operational readiness for the new Equine Emergency and Colic Facility
  • Partner with executive leadership on service growth, workforce planning, and long-term sustainability
  • Drive a collaborative, high-performance, and psychologically safe clinical culture
  • Represent the hospital within the equine referral and professional community

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and eligible for licensure in Ontario, Canada
  • Extensive senior-level experience in equine surgery and/or equine emergency and critical care
  • Proven leadership experience in a medical director, CMO, or equivalent senior clinical role
  • Strong background in hospital operations, capacity planning, and clinical governance
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary specialist teams in high-acuity environments
  • Experience supporting service expansion, new facilities, or major operational change initiatives
  • Excellent communication, leadership presence, and strategic decision-making capability

This is a flagship leadership opportunity for an internationally experienced equine specialist seeking a long-term executive career in Canada. King Animal Hospital offers executive-level compensation, full immigration and relocation support, and the chance to leave a lasting impact on the future of equine emergency medicine in North America.

If you are ready to lead at the highest level and build something truly exceptional, this role represents a rare, career-defining opportunity.
