GHD's Transportation Group is seeking a Commercial Manager . This individual will functionally report to our Commercial Director Major Projects.
The Project Commercial Manager provides commercial and contract management leadership to support GHD’s performance and outcomes on major Design and Construction (D&C) contracts.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in :
- Assist in the positioning of GHD (and / or its JV partners) to undertake tender design services for D&C Contractors, on terms that are within our agreed risk profile.
- During execution of the tender design services, support the Project Director and Project Manager to deliver the commercial and contractual performance of the contract, and also be responsible for the development and negotiation of the commercial framework for the subsequent detailed design services.
- During execution of the detailed design services, from design development thru to construction completion, support the Project Director and Project Manager to deliver the commercial and contractual performance of the contract.
- Liaise with the Legal and Risk Team to identify and mitigate against project risks and manage any project related claims.
- Oversea multiple projects supporting commercial delivery.
Key Duties and Responsibilities :
- Manage the GHD Prime Contract or JV Contract for major projects
- Submit Variation claims in accordance with the Consultancy Agreement on behalf of the Consultant, including development and maintenance of Variations register.
- Submit Delay notices and Extension of Time claims in accordance with the Consultancy Agreement on behalf of the Consultant, including developing and maintaining an Extension of Time register.
- Ensure bonds, letters of credit, guarantees, other securities, insurance and other initial contract requirements are met.
- Administer all commercial aspects of contracts, subcontracts, including payment terms, security packages, change orders, claims / disputes, and close-out matters
- Liaise closely and frequently with the Design Manager and the Project Manager to maintain a broad view of the project insofar as it affects the Consultant, to ensure all substantive issues arising on the project are well understood and receive the appropriate attention.
- Identify and manage project commercial risks as a subset of the project’s Risk Register.
- Liaise with the Legal and Risk Team to manage any project claims and / or disputes.
- Ensure risk mitigation measures are implemented, related costs are tracked, and measures followed through on a timely basis
- Liaise with Project Director for claims under OCIP / Project Co policies
What you will bring to the team :
- Bachelor’s ( degree, technology diploma, or equivalent from a recognized college or university with a minimum of ten years broad and extensive technical, administrative and project experience.
- Strong commercial and legal acumen in the professional services and / or construction contracting industry; specific experience on design for design build project delivery is considered an asset.
- Understanding of the commercial frameworks and drivers of construction contractors, government, quasi-government and private-sector clients.
- Experience in delivery of design delivery for larger, multi-discipline projects
- Detailed knowledge of the content and intent of standard-form General Conditions of Contract for design and construction work, and experience in the application of these and other bespoke General Conditions of Contract across a number of large design and construction projects.
- Knowledge of scheduling software and engineering and capital cost estimating techniques is a definite asset.
- Strong negotiating skills.
