Application Architect

Overview

Some of what you will do : As the Application Architect, you will be a hands-on technical leader responsible for defining, governing, and evolving application and integration architecture for Staples Canada’s platforms. This role partners closely with engineering, platform, infrastructure, and business teams to ensure applications are well-integrated, cloud-ready, secure, and aligned to enterprise standards, while remaining pragmatic and delivery-focused. We want an individual who will challenge the norm, strive to create the best experiences and someone who always puts the customer first.

Responsibilities

• Define and maintain end-to-end application architecture for retail and e-commerce platforms, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
• Translate business capabilities and product roadmaps into clear architectural patterns, reference designs, and technical guardrails.
• Design and govern integration patterns across internal systems and external platforms, including : REST / GraphQL APIs, Event-driven and asynchronous messaging, Third-party SaaS integrations, Cloud-native and hybrid integrations.
• Partner with integration, middleware, and platform teams to ensure consistent use of patterns such as : API Gateway / Management; Event streaming / messaging; Data synchronization and caching strategies.
• Evaluate and recommend technologies, frameworks, and tools that improve application and integration capabilities and guide teams on the effective use of JavaScript, React, Node.js, .NET, and cloud services.
• Provide architectural guidance and mentorship to development teams across the full stack.
