Description
The Business Intelligence Lead Analyst is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining reporting, analytics, and data solutions that support GS1 Canada’s strategic objectives and Industry Managed Solutions. Working closely with internal stakeholders, senior leadership, and technical teams, the incumbent gathers requirements, analyzes data workflows, and delivers insights that enable confident, data-informed decision-making.
In addition to core Business Intelligence responsibilities, this role provides leadership and mentorship within the BI team by guiding junior analysts, supporting onboarding and knowledge transfer, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The incumbent plays a key role in leading migration efforts, identifying and implementing new data initiatives, and enhancing operational efficiencies across reporting and analytics functions.
This role also supports ongoing enhancements to GS1 Canada’s TrueSource™ Dashboard and contributes to improved data governance, process efficiency, and reporting automation across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Confer with internal clients and stakeholders to gather and document business requirements.
- Conduct root cause analysis to assess business needs, success criteria, and timelines for reporting and analytical solutions.
- Design, develop, integrate, test, and implement business intelligence and reporting solutions using SQL, Excel, VBA, Power BI, Python, and other database technologies.
- Refresh and enhance GS1 Canada’s TrueSource™ Dashboard, ensuring its continued accuracy, usability, and relevance to industry stakeholders.
- Support the optimization of ETL processes, data models, and workflows to strengthen data quality and accessibility.
- Conduct detailed system tests, validating data accuracy and functionality before deployment.
- Resolve data inconsistencies and identify opportunities to improve data quality and reliability.
- Produce reports, technical documentation, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support data management and reporting standards.
- Support data governance initiatives by maintaining consistent data definitions, naming conventions, and documentation practices.
- Schedule and automate recurring tasks to reduce manual effort and increase departmental efficiency.
- Develop KPIs, dashboards, and forecasting models that support continuous improvement and data-driven decision-making across GS1 Canada’s Industry Managed Solutions.
- Lead migration efforts and support the successful transition of reporting and analytical solutions across platforms and systems.
- Mentor and support new hires through onboarding, training, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Identify and drive new BI initiatives focused on automation, process improvement, analytics modernization, and operational efficiency.
- Provide leadership and guidance to team members while supporting cross-functional collaboration and project delivery priorities.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Position Requirements - Bachelor’s degree in business, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in a Business Intelligence, Data Analyst, or analytics-focused role.
- Prior experience leading projects, mentoring team members, or coordinating cross-functional initiatives is considered an asset.
Technical Skills - Strong proficiency in SQL, Power BI, Excel (including Power Query and VBA), and relational databases.
- Experience with Python for data manipulation and automation.
- Knowledge of data modeling concepts, ETL processes, and BI best practices.
- Experience validating, troubleshooting, and improving data quality.
- Experience supporting enterprise reporting environments, dashboard modernization, and migration initiatives.
