Baseball Operations - Entry Level Opportunities
The Toronto Blue Jays are seeking highly motivated and creative individuals to assist with day-to-day tasks across various areas of Baseball Operations, including Scouting, Player Development, High Performance, and Research & Development/Analytics. These positions are paid and may be based in Toronto, ON; Dunedin, FL; or affiliated locations across Canada, the United States, or the Dominican Republic. Start and end dates are flexible depending on the specific role.

Role Summaries
Player Development Technology
- Serve as the point person for video, technology, and data resources
- Deploy and operate technology for recording data during practice and games
- Organize, catalog, distribute, and review video and data/advance resources for affiliate staff and PD personnel
- Contribute to advance scouting and game planning preparation and delivery
- Help track player goals and progress; collaborate across departments to support projects
- Assist with on-field activities and day-to-day logistics as needed
Requirements: Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required. Prior experience with baseball video charting and data capture systems (e.g., Hawkeye, Trackman, high-speed cameras) is beneficial. Knowledge of baseball rules, scoring, and pitch identification is valuable. Spanish proficiency is helpful and may be required in some cases.
Operations (Scouting, Baseball Operations, Player Development)
- Support logistical and administrative functions of scouting, player development, or baseball operations
- Organize, enter, and maintain data and video resources; assist with expense reports, statistics/rosters, and meeting logistics
- Contribute to player evaluation through review of video and data
- In Player Development, assist with translating documents to/from English and Spanish, and help integrate technology into on-field or lab work
Requirements: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) is crucial. Knowledge of baseball rules is an asset. Spanish proficiency is beneficial (required in some cases). Proficiency with data management and analysis tools (SQL, R, Python) is an asset.
Advance Scouting/Game Preparation and Planning
- Support game-by-game and series-by-series preparation for MLB or minor league affiliates
- Collect and organize statistics for scouting reports; identify patterns in performance
- Edit and assemble video clips for upcoming matchups
- Conduct ad-hoc research and analysis; provide written evaluations and insights to coaching staff
- Support on-field video and data collection during games and practice; operate game-prep technology
- Use analytical reporting or data science skills to create game preparation resources
Requirements: Strong knowledge of baseball rules and strategy; proficiency with video editing software; familiarity with R, Shiny is an asset.
Research & Development
- Conduct self-directed research using R, Python, SQL or similar tools
- Work on data acquisition, organization/cleaning, statistical modeling, and visualization
- Present findings to front office, coaches, or players in an accessible, actionable manner
- Provide logistical support during major events (Draft, Trade Deadline)
- Assets: experience with advanced modeling techniques or AI/Computer Vision/Time Series, etc.
Baseball Systems Development
- Collaborate with end users to gather requirements and ensure systems meet operational needs
- Develop systems to acquire and store new datasets, improving data accessibility
- Design intuitive front-end web interfaces for internal baseball information systems
- Support key points on the baseball calendar
- Experience with software engineering, web development, and database management is important; provide relevant work samples if available
Biomechanics/Sports Science
- Use SQL, R, Python or similar tools for internal research
- Analyze biomechanical and sports science data to ensure quality and extract insights
- Build actionable reports with visualizations and clear communication to stakeholders
- Research and present on new technologies and methods in biomechanics and sports science
- Collaborate with Scouting, Player Development, High Performance and R&D
Qualifications: Enrollment in or completion of a degree in Kinesiology, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, or similar field is preferred. Experience with large biomechanical datasets, motion capture, force plates, and advanced baseball statistics is a plus. Prior work with marker motion capture and related data is advantageous.
