We are currently seeking a collaborative and organized Indigenous Education Coordinator Trainee to support Indigenous content delivery in our Education programs. Type of Employment: 7-month contract, from September 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027

Rate of Pay: $22 – $26 per hour

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Work Location: On site, at our waterfront campus in downtown Toronto

Summary of Function

Located at Harbourfront Centre, School Visits is an innovative field-trip program that offers hands-on, curriculum-based learning experiences through multidisciplinary experiences. The Indigenous Education Coordinator Trainee will be responsible for delivering programs in Indigenous Studies and other disciplines including Visual Arts, Performing Arts and Urban Studies. Key responsibilities include setting up, facilitating and cleaning up after scheduled workshops. In addition, the Indigenous Education Coordinator Trainee will support the ongoing development and improvement of education programs by collaborating with the Education team on program planning, resource development, and administrative tasks.

Duties

• Facilitate engaging, curriculum-based School Visits workshops in Indigenous Studies for students from pre-kindergarten to Grade 12, while preparing program spaces with program equipment and materials. Ensure participant safety and adherence to health and safety procedures, delivering exceptional customer service and creating an inclusive, hands-on learning experience.
• Support the School Visits team in program review and development of Indigenous Studies programs and resources while monitoring and evaluating programs to ensure they meet the needs of students and teachers, with a strong emphasis on experiential learning.
• Lead organization-wide educational initiatives related to Indigenous history and culture, including monthly staff communications and other awareness-building activities.
• Participate in professional development opportunities with other departments, including hands-on and administrative experience.
• Support volunteers, interns, and/or student teachers when assigned.
• Participate in training, orientation, and professional development as required.
• Assist in outreach, registration and/or other School Visits administrative tasks.
• Assist the Education team in supply management including supply inventory, replenishment and cost analysis.

Requirements

• As this position is funded by a grant, candidates need to identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, Inuit) and must be currently residing within the Greater Toronto Area.
• Post-secondary education in an education or art field; the ideal candidate possesses or is pursuing a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.).
• Minimum 2 years of teaching experience and/or leading workshops with children and youth in any formal or informal setting (school, gallery, museum, before/after school program, camp).
• Familiarity with the Ontario Curriculum and program development experience.
• Background or training in Visual Arts (e.g., clay, mixed media, printmaking, textile arts), Performing Arts (e.g., dance, drama, music), Urban Studies, education, or a related field is an asset.
• Capacity to stand for a long period of time and lift various materials and equipment up to 40lbs.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, classroom/group management skills, including the ability to handle potentially difficult situations with diplomacy.
• Strong organizational and time management skills within a classroom setting.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently when required.
• Demonstrated commitment to creating safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environments.
• Bilingual (English – French) is considered an asset.
• As a condition of employment, a Vulnerable Sector Check that is satisfactory to Harbourfront Centre will be required of the successful candidate. The cost of this screening is to be covered by the incumbent.
• Must be legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.
• This role is based in Toronto. The candidate must be able to work on site at our lakeside campus.
