Fermar Paving Limited is a fully-integrated general contractor operating in the GTA, executing projects from parking lots for our private clients to municipal roadway widenings and highway interchange replacement for our municipal and provincial partners.

Pay scale: $24.00 - $27.00 per hour

Job Summary

The Quality Control Field Technician Level 2 is a key role that has a significant impact on the success of Fermar Paving Ltd. (“the Company”) Operations, focusing on high quality and risk mitigation.

The role is responsible and accountable for assessing the quality of Asphalt Mix designs and for the quality of workmanship in the field ensuring the product delivered by the Company’s and Sub-contractor crews is in accordance with the required specifications.

The Quality Control Field Technician 2 coordinates testing with the Client’s agent on site to ensure the integrity of the testing, and the materials meet Customer specifications, and MTO and CCIL (Canadian Council of Independent Laboratories) quality standards. The role is responsible for providing support and guidance to Quality Control Field Technician Level 3 to ensure the Quality Testing and Tracking required for each assigned site and project is completed meeting or exceeding quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership Oversight

  • The QC Field Tech Level 2 role in collaboration with QC Field Tech Level 1 is responsible for mentoring, training, and supporting Level 3 Techs to ensure they are being developed and are progressively assigned increasing levels of responsibility and autonomy as deemed appropriate.
  • Provides input on goals and objectives and insightful feedback to the QC Manager on the performance of Level 3 Techs for year-end performance reviews.
  • Champions a zero-tolerance standard and mindset for Safety and completing and submitting all required safety documentation.
  • Coordinates with the Level 1 Tech on delegating tasks to Level 3 Techs to ensure the work required for the day/week/month is assigned appropriately.

Planning/Financial

  • Mitigates risk by identifying potential compliance/conformance/performance discrepancies and recommending corrective actions without delay.
  • Participates in the Pre-Construction Meeting, and monthly Progress Meetings with Owners, Project Managers, and the QC Coordinator.

Operating

  • Addresses onsite quality issues by informing and directing crews of any workmanship quality issues.
  • Communicates daily with PM and Field Engineers regarding Quality Test results and raises issues or concerns pertaining to the Job.
  • Competently responds to all inquiries regarding Quality testing at meetings and while on Job sites.
  • Maintains a daily log of test results and productivity.
  • Actively participates in Safety Tail Gate meetings given by the Site Superintendent.

Education and Experience

  • College Diploma - Civil Engineering Technician (2-year minimum).
  • Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in QC including Field positions.
  • Experience working directly with legislative representatives, site management and construction field crews
  • Asphalt and Grandular experience is preferred
