The Student Financial Systems Operations unit is responsible for managing information systems for Financial Aid, Awards & Student Accounts, from requirement specification to development, and maintenance to reporting. This includes generating creative solutions and incorporating new technical processes to improve business workflow, production, security, efficiency, and effectiveness.
Your opportunity:
The Senior Systems Analyst is responsible for managing information systems for University Awards; from requirement specification to development, and maintenance to reporting. This includes generating creative solutions and incorporating new technical processes to improve business workflow, production, security, efficiency, and effectiveness.
The incumbent will work closely with the Assistant Registrar, Systems and collaboratively with staff in the University Registrar’s Office, and other University units to ensure the high-quality execution of technology administration and project management to support student financial activities. The position serves as a technical lead and support to the Awards and Operations staff in the VP:SEM portfolio, while also working closely with Financial Aid & Awards colleagues from across the divisions, and the University IT community. The Senior Systems Analyst will lead and implement system support for the University’s CRM, Slate, the Smart Simple Award Management System, and the URO Financial Aid Hub. The incumbent also effectively and efficiently uses ROSI, the University’s primary student records system, as well as complementary reporting technologies (e.g. PowerBI, Tableau).
The position works collaboratively with the School of Graduate Studies, the Office of Student Recruitment, Direct-Entry Admissions, Planning & Budgeting, and other University units to ensure the execution of technology supported business processes, data management and reporting as related to the financial aid cycle. The position is responsible for providing technical direction and support to the Financial Aid, Awards & Student Accounts staff in the University Registrar's Office. The incumbent will work closely with Financial Aid, Awards & Student Accounts colleagues from across the divisions as well as the IT community at the University to ensure the success of projects.
The incumbent is also responsible for gathering user input and for organizing the testing, implementation, and training for systems locally. The incumbent will also assume responsibility for data cleaning and management, identify and solve data issues, and track, organize and maintain data and metrics.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading IT projects
- Providing consultative advice on data requirements
- Modifying highly complex subsystems
- Developing and updating architectural framework for highly complex and confidential university-wide databases
- Advising on the creation of efficiencies for business processes and productivity
- Analyzing existing service and process procedures and recommending changes
- Implementing program improvements and maintenance of program standards
- Serving as a resource on specific issues to a group of specialists
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in Systems development, Information Technology and Project Management in Higher Education
- Proven record of successfully managing projects, working independently, analyzing data and meeting deadlines
- Expert knowledge of Technolutions Slate, Smart Simple Award Management System, and ROSI
- Working knowledge of the policies and procedures of the University of Toronto
- Excellent SQL and front-end web development skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to conduct clear presentations
- Excellent team leadership, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to conduct clear presentations; demonstrated effective project management skills
- Ability to align operations to support strategic enrolment management goals
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of academic and administrative staff and applicants/students

- Excellent time management, prioritization, multi-tasking skills, and attention to detail
Assets (Nonessential):
- Master’s Degree is strongly preferred
- Experience with data analysis and data modeling, business process analysis, writing technical specifications and use cases, optimizing and implementing new systems would be an asset
- Direct experience with projects using the software development life cycle highly desired
