Typical Day in Role
Analyze complex business and system requirements and translate them into detailed technical specifications.Design, develop, enhance, and maintain Assembler and COBOL programs within large scale mainframe environments.Support modeling, simulation, performance tuning, and troubleshooting activities.Work with JCL, DB2, VSAM, and mainframe utilities to deliver robust and secure solutions.Ensure compliance with enterprise standards for quality, security, and regulatory requirements.Participate in Agile / iterative SDLC processes, including daily standups, sprint planning, and code reviews.Collaborate with infrastructure, security, DevOps, and integration teams as needed.Candidate Requirements / Must Have Skills
10+ years of recent, hands on Assembler (HLASM) development experience — expert level proficiency required.10+ years of mainframe development experience using COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, Netron.5+ years’ experience with security and environment control systems such as ISPW, Endevor, RACF; plus database management tools (IDB2, VSAM).5+ years’ experience with mainframe utilities and productivity tools (MVS / TSO, ACR, COMPAREX, SYNCSORT, IDCAMS, CRF, File Manager).5+ years of strong DB2, DFSORT, JCL, and COBOL experience supporting large scale enterprise applications.Nice To Have Skills
Understanding of file transfer protocols (FTP, SFTP).Knowledge of mainframe integration for ETL processing.Experience with DevOps practices and tooling.Experience with web services and APIs.Education & Certificates
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.Additional mainframe or security certifications are an asset.Best vs. Average Candidate
