Unit Summary

Hamilton Health Sciences is the Ministry designated Lead Trauma Hospital for Hamilton, Niagara, Haldimand, Brant as well as Waterloo, Wellington and Halton. As one of the top three trauma centres in the province, the Trauma Program admits over 600 major trauma patients per year and provides integrated clinical, research, educational and prevention services along the entire trauma continuum by a multidisciplinary team.

Position Summary

The Nurse Practitioner (Adult) will provide comprehensive, patient‑centered care across inpatient and outpatient settings for individuals experiencing acute and complex traumatic injuries, including polytrauma, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, hemorrhage, and other high‑acuity conditions. The Nurse Practitioner will perform advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, and management, supporting patients throughout the continuum of trauma care from admission through recovery and follow‑up.

In this role, the Nurse Practitioner will closely monitor patient status, recognize and respond to clinical deterioration, and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions. The Nurse Practitioner will coordinate and support trauma care plans, facilitate timely follow‑up, and contribute to safe and effective transitions in care, with a focus on optimizing functional outcomes, recovery, and quality of life.

The Nurse Practitioner will work collaboratively within an interprofessional trauma team, contributing to clinical decision‑making, patient and family education, and care coordination across services.

In addition to direct patient care, the Nurse Practitioner will play a key role in trauma program development, quality improvement, research, education, and clinical consultation. Responsibilities will evolve in collaboration with program leadership to support trauma system priorities, including performance improvement, patient flow, and integration across the continuum of trauma care.
