Who can apply

Persons residing within a 150 km radius of Banff, AB. Parks Canada Agency considers applications from students who have legal status to work in Canada. Please indicate in your application the reason for which you are entitled to work in Canada : Canadian citizenship, permanent resident status, or work permit. To be considered for employment under one of the student employment programs, the individual must be :

• Registered as a full‑time or part‑time secondary or post‑secondary student in an accredited academic program
• Participating in adult education and retraining programs at the secondary level, operated under the authority of an accredited academic institution
• Meet the minimum age requirement to be employed in the province or territory of work

Duties

Student Day Use Area Attendant : Provides traffic management, visitor services, revenue collection, and site cleaning and maintenance at key day use areas in Banff National Park. This includes flagging and other traffic management, providing information to the visiting public, litter picking and group cleaning, and regulation and safety compliance.

Student Entry Gate and Visitor Centre Attendants : Revenue collection at various visitor service locations including visitor centres, entry gates, day use areas and retail locations. This includes providing comprehensive information to the visiting public on a wide variety of topics including campgrounds, trails, points of interest, safety, wilderness travel, park regulations and policies, selling a variety of passes, and properly accounting for revenue received.

Student Campground Attendant : Provides visitor services to enhance visitor experience, and cleans and maintains Parks Canada Agency area buildings, facilities and grounds. This includes daily cleaning of campground washroom facilities, day use area washrooms / pit privies, campsite cleaning / maintenance, grounds cleaning and litter picking, emptying of trash and recycling receptacles. May also include greeting & orienting visitors, revenue collection, providing information and basic administrative tasks.

Intent of the process

The results may be used in the future to fill other temporary student vacancies that may arise in the Banff Field Unit, in various locations, with full or part‑time hours for various tenures, depending on status of the selected candidate.

Operational Requirements

You need (essential for the job)

Open to students currently enrolled in secondary or post‑secondary school in an accredited institution and / or those participating in adult education and retraining programs at the secondary level, operated under the authority of an accredited academic institution.

Experience in providing front line customer service and cleaning and maintenance practices.

Knowledge of

Parks Canada, its mandate and values and principles; Banff National Park and the surrounding areas including visitor experience operations and facilities.
