The Applications Architect plays a key role in analysing government information related to business architecture and consulting with stakeholders on initiatives such as :

- Other client-driven projects
Responsibilities
Lead the design and planning of IT systems and enterprise architecture.Apply OPS Target State Architecture principles and adhere to established architecture and software engineering standards.Design and manage reusable IT services across large-scale or multiple projects.Establish and apply architecture standards, frameworks, and best practices.Develop and maintain business capability models aligned with corporate strategy.Contribute to enterprise blueprints and strategic alignment initiatives.Deliver key architecture documents, including :Business Architecture Document (BAD)Review Requests for Bids (RFBs) and present findings to the Architecture Review Board (ARB).Provide ongoing support for security reviews, ARB updates, penetration testing, and collaboration with business analysts.Define, identify, and describe information architectural requirements with clients and obtain I&IT management approval.Present architecture deliverables to Enterprise Architecture governance reviews.Document architecture from business, solution, information, and security perspectives.Support security and privacy assessments and collaborate on risk mitigation strategies.Work closely with IT leadership, project teams, and stakeholders across the organisation.Define application structures, reusable components, quality metrics, and integration interfaces.Develop and manage cross-platform applications in large, distributed environments.Monitor systems and define requirements for source code, middleware, and database interactions.Shape the long-term technology roadmap and provide strategic guidance.Advise on architecture, policy, and programme development to ensure alignment with organisational goals.Participate in innovation initiatives and evaluate emerging technologies for business fit.Experience and Skill Set Requirements
Must Have
7+ years of experience as an architect.Proven ability to develop key architecture deliverables (SAD, BAD, IAD).Conduct and support security / privacy assessments.Review RFBs and present at ARB.Provide ongoing support including reviewing SRDs, updating ARB presentations, supporting penetration testing, and collaborating with business analysts.Mixture of Business and Application Architecture experience.Knowledge of public cloud services (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).Knowledge of Azure public cloud and hosted services (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics 365).Understanding of multi-platform technology, including research, development, implementation, and security.Experience with TRA, PIA, and security review.Architecture and Design (50%)
Proven experience completing business architectures in government or complex organisations.Excellent knowledge and experience with methods, techniques, and tools for business architecture (e.g., business functional modelling, service lifecycle modelling, business event modelling, business process mapping, value chain analysis).Ability to integrate and identify IT-enabled opportunities to solve business needs.Experience eliciting, validating, analysing, modelling, and documenting Business Architecture.Knowledge of IM & IT strategic planning and performance management.Excellent communication, facilitation, negotiation, and consensus-building skills.Experience translating business requirements into technical requirements.Knowledge of Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and related standards.Technical Skills (30%)
Knowledge of public cloud services (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).Knowledge of Azure public cloud and hosted services (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics 365).Understanding of security concepts and their application.Experience with middleware, gateways, and performance considerations.Experience in structured methodologies for design, development, and implementation.
Extensive experience in systems analysis and design in large environments.Familiarity with CASE tools, project management software, and business re-engineering tools.Awareness of emerging I&IT trends and directions.Knowledge of object-oriented analysis and design techniques.Experience leading multi-tier application infrastructure design and configuration.Knowledge of Zachman Framework and Ontario Government EA methodologies.Analytical and Problem-Solving (10%)
