Your opportunity :
The Technoscience Research Unit (TRU) is an Indigenous-led and interdisciplinary hub for creative and critical social science, humanities, and design research concerning science and technology, with a strength in Indigenous-led research, environmental justice, and data / AI ethics.
The TRU is affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and Science, the Faculty of Information, and the Acceleration Consortium.
The TRU hosts an Indigenous Environmental Data Justice (EDJ) Lab, which does community-based work, organizes public events and workshops, and supports the research of students, faculty and community researchers.
The administration of TRU is with the Department of History. The TRU is particularly dedicated to fostering Indigenous Science and Technology Studies as well as supporting BIPOC, 2SLGBTQA+, and community researchers.
TRU) is committed to supporting individuals in enhancing their skills for contributing to the work of our indigenous community based research.
Reporting to the Principal Investigator, this position will be organizing community-based research relationship building, outreach, partnership, programming, and events as part of Indigenous community-based Environmental Data Justice research at the TRU, which has focused on Canada’s Chemical Valley.
This position will work closely with the PI and the Lead Research Officer to assist in the design and creation of research projects that are led by and meet the needs of Indigenous community members towards questions of environmental justice and Indigenous understandings of sustainability in relation to chemical pollutants.
They will contribute to research that brings Indigenous knowledges about chemical pollutants and environmental justice towards the creation of new tools, information, digital technologies, policies, and understandings that better meet the needs of Indigenous communities, and are created through Indigenous based research method.
Your responsibilities will include :
- Fostering positive relationships with project partners and participants
- Coordinating research activities including (monitoring study timelines, reporting weekly progress) using Indigenous community-based methods
- Performing mixed methods data analyses including collecting qualitative and quantitative data
- Assisting in the preparation of Indigenous knowledge activities (preparing reports, formatting manuscripts, conference presentation materials, stakeholder documents, and websites)
- Determining logistical details and activities for events and / or programming
Essential Qualifications :
- Master's Degree in indigenous studies or related disciplines, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum three (3) years of relevant research work experience, including experience working with Indigenous community-based research, Indigenous research methodologies, and Indigenous environmental data work.
- Demonstrated experience managing projects that require collaboration with diverse project partners
- Demonstrated project management and research knowledge, experience and methodologies in relation to Indigenous community projects
- Demonstrated experience working and collaborating with Indigenous leaders, communities, and / or organizations
- Demonstrated experience working and collaborating with Indigenous leaders, communities, and / or organizations
- Experience and proficiency with organizing data, meetings, and minute-taking
- Experience working in an Indigenous academic environment
- Strong communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational skills, time management and problem-solving skills with the ability to meet conflicting priorities and balance multiple projects
- Demonstrates initiative and possesses a strong commitment to Indigenous research work with a strong commitment to accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong planning, project management skills with excellent prioritization and time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, show initiative and good judgment, and be an effective team member
- Must have a solid understanding of Indigenous research, environmental data justice, and cultural traditional knowledges
- Demonstrated listening and critical thinking skills with the ability to learn new skills
- Ability to maintain a broad perspective; ability to foster and maintain effective relationships with all levels

Prorated Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone :
USW Pay Band 11 $36,874 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $47,155. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation / Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
