Our Candidates Require :
- To be Registered Veterinary Technician with the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians
- Experience in dentistry or special interest in dentistry and oral surgery is an asset
- Experience with anesthesia (required)
- The ability to perform exceptionally well under pressure
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Strong desire to educate and build solid relationships with clients
- A passion for making a difference in the lives of pets and their owners
Duties and responsibilities :
Under the supervision of the Oral Surgeon, the duties and responsibilities of the Registered Veterinary Technician includes, but are not limited to :
- Perform evaluation of the patient’s condition by evaluation of the animal, reviewing patient history and diagnostics
- Prepares preanesthetic evaluation form using the above acquired information for discussion with the supervising Oral Surgeon and Anesthesiologist
- Case set up and preparation (set up of anesthetic machine, monitors, anesthetic agents required for case, specialized equipment) as per the LAHP Anesthetic SOP
- Provides continuous monitoring of the animal throughout the entire anesthetic period
- Responsible for accepting referrals from various channels and booking the referrals according to ezyVet and / or doctor specific protocols
- Introducing one-self to clients, bringing them into examination rooms and taking a preliminary history prior to oral surgeon beginning the appointment
- Proficient in dental hygiene procedures including cleaning, scaling and polishing teeth
- Perform dental radiographs
- Educate clients on proper oral hygiene techniques and preventative care for their pets
- Preparation and maintenance of medical records
- Ability to identify and report changes with in-hospital patients to Oral Surgeon and / or Anesthesiologist
- Rounding patients to the ER and ICU department for overnight care
- Performing and submitting laboratory samples
- Administering oral, IM and IV medications
- Using independent judgment and initiative
- Experience with ezyVet / VetRadar is an asset but not required
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
- Work well as part of a team
