They are looking for a Finance Controller who will be responsible for providing direct support to the site / unit senior management team and support the Director, Controllership and Vice President Business Planning and Reporting (BPR) to advance the Senior Vice President, Chief Controller’s mandate to act as a partner to business units and corporate groups, providing effective value-added support for customer needs.

About the Opportunity
As a member of the senior management team and local representative of Senior Vice President, Chief Controller, the Controller will :
- Ensure that site / unit strategic and tactical plans are aligned with OPG goals and objectives.
- Operate in a consultative role to site / unit management for all matters relating to financial management and accounting guidance.
- Provide operational and financial reports to support management decisions.
- Provide the correct interpretation of the Organizational Authority Register and other key finance governing documents.
- Help lead a skilled Controllership team that provides a continuous improvement environment by championing relevant best practices, supporting continuous learning, and pursuing efficiency improvement opportunities across the finance function.
Financial Management and Internal Control
- As the site / unit expert on all matters relating to financial management and accounting guidance, and a corporate fiduciary, the Controller shall :
- Provide proactive advice and guidance to line management related to matters impacting financial results and risk mitigation strategies.
- Work with site / unit management to establish policies, programs, processes, systems and standards to implement approved corporate strategies.
- Advocate fiscal responsibility, and ensure best practices are employed in financial management, planning, and in setting operational performance measures.
- Assist in providing financial risk and value assessments related to base operating activities and outages, business cases, projects, contracts, and life-cycle planning.
- Develop and implement internal control measures to safeguard all assets within the business unit's control.
- Act as the key point of contact during financial audits, and other business related initiatives such the OEB filing, financial performance improvement initiatives, peer reviews and benchmarking studies etc.
- Oversee the appropriateness and effectiveness of internal controls and risk policy compliance procedures for all transactions Financial and Cost Reporting
- The Controller will oversee the financial reporting function at the site / unit and ensure the accuracy, completeness, fairness, of the financial records, the existence of all assets, and disclosure of all known financial obligations and risks to the business unit.
Related duties will include, but are not limited to, the following :
- Be the financial process owner for the orderly and efficient month / year end 'closing of the books' and timely and accurate preparation of financial statements for the Business Unit operations within strict accounting practices and principles.
- Production of periodic financial and cost reports.
- Production of operation reports e.g. Base, Outage, Project, MFA and Capital Projects, Daily Profit and Loss and mark to market reports (as applicable) etc.
- Production of other ad hoc reports, and variance analyses.
- Completion of audits / self-assessments of the Business and Travel expenses (Concur), and Purchase Card expenses.
- Conducting periodic business review meetings with internal clients.
- Identifying critical accounting issues, alternative analyses and recommend options for accounting in consultation with Corporate Finance (as applicable).
- Adhering to Generally Acceptable Accounting Practices and International Financial Reporting Standards. Business Planning, Budgeting and Investment Management
- Establishing strategies, policies, processes, systems, and standards for business planning, forecasting and budgeting.
- Overseeing the business planning and budgeting processes, and work with site / unit leadership to ensure that the business plan is aligned with corporate business direction and vision.
- Ensuring accurate upload of the business plan into the Business Planning System.
- Preparing or assisting in the preparation of the presentation and supporting material of the business plan to the various stakeholders.
- Assisting line management to develop performance measures and Annual Incentive Plans by establishing both financial and non-financial targets.
- Assisting line management in the preparation and analysis of Business Case Summaries to support investment decisions.
- Helping to identify and highlight risks and opportunities to the business plan. Performance Reporting
- Provide an independent review of the monthly site / unit Report Card prior to issuance.
- Support periodic benchmarking studies aimed at improving OPG's competitive edge, and provide professional insight into comparative industry practices, and issues pertaining to performance reporting.
- Coordinate Operating Report production and review.
- Participation in cross functional teams as needed.
- Provision of training on business related issues to both financial and non-financial staff and managers.
- Maintaining a current understanding of changes in accounting and reporting standards, and their impact on internal practices.
- Acting as liaison between the business unit and all other corporate finance functions as required (e.g. Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Credit Risk, Taxation, Planning).
About You
- University degree with an emphasis on Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or equivalent
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or International CPA in good standing of an international accounting body recognized in Canada (eg : US CPA, CA / ACCA) Salary Range
$140,000 - $150,000 / year
