The Ballard Finance Team has an opportunity for a Financial Accounting Manager to be a key member of its Finance Team. This role will be a technical accounting expert focusing on IFRS accounting analysis, process, and internal controls, subsidiary integration and financial reporting, with additional responsibilities including being the primary point person for Treasury related matters.
The position reports to the Director, Corporate Reporting and has the following responsibilities and requirements :
Responsibilities :
Technical accounting expert
- Researching and preparing accounting analysis memos in compliance with IFRS for accounting transactions, including, but not limited to complex revenue recognition transactions and acquisition / investment transactions
- Staying up-to-date on IFRS changes
Subsidiary integration
- Analysis of subsidiaries’ monthly reporting package with specific focus around revenue and other key areas of financial risk, judgement and control
- Assisting with acquisition integration support from a financial accounting perspective including but not limited to : due diligence activities;
analysing purchase price allocation; and supporting the financial integration of the acquisition into Ballard by pushing down corporate policies and designing processes and procedures as required
Reviewing, documenting, and implementing internal controls for responsible areas in compliance with SOX and ensuring the relevant processes are aligned to SOX with a focus on international subsidiaries
Treasury management
- Overseeing the Treasury function which includes :
- managing forward foreign exchange hedging program including administration of F / X contracts, interest rate analysis and supporting reporting requirements
- liaising with various banks and reviewing the administration, setup, and maintenance of Ballard’s bank accounts and banking systems, including setup in Oracle ERP
- Reviewing, documenting, and implementing internal controls for responsible areas in compliance with SOX and ensuring that relevant processes are aligned to SOX with a focus on payment controls
- Develop understanding and knowledge of Cash Management module in Oracle ERP
Financial reporting
- Develop understanding and knowledge of Fixed Assets process and reporting requirements including high-level understanding of Fixed Assets module in Oracle ERP
- Compiling and analysing data to support financial analysis and reporting
- Helping to design and refine financial processes and financial reports with regards to Oracle ERP
- Opportunities to work on other ad hoc and special projects, as needed
Requirements :
The ideal candidate has demonstrated strong technical accounting expertise, excellent analytical skills, and must be adaptable in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills will round out the successful candidate.
- Professional accounting designation (CPA - CA or CGA)
- Minimum 10 years working experience in accounting, preferably public company audit experience
- Public company reporting and experience with multi-currency companies is required
- Strong technical accounting skills (IFRS), including experience researching and analyzing complex IFRS issues
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent analytical abilities, high attention to detail, and ability to identify and resolve issues in a timely manner
- Takes ownership and is results oriented, with a focus on quality
- Strong software skills with both accounting systems and the Microsoft suite of products. Advanced Excel skills required.
Experience with Oracle ERP is an asset.
