City Editor

Now Toronto is seeking a passionate and driven City Editor to join our editorial team on a full-time basis. Reporting to the Managing Editor, you will be responsible for researching, writing, and editing compelling, original content that reflects the diverse voices and issues shaping Toronto. You’ll pitch and develop unique story ideas, conduct interviews, and contribute to both breaking news and in-depth features. The ideal candidate has strong editorial judgment, a sharp voice, and a deep understanding of the city’s cultural and political landscape. This is an in-person position with a salary range of $70,000-$78,000, depending on experience.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have at least three years of experience as a writer/reporter covering diverse topics. You must possess excellent writing skills, attention to detail, and critical thinking skills to thrive in this role. Within your writing samples, you should provide evidence of your ability to tackle challenging subjects with curiosity and clarity. You must have a proven record of driving a story from concept to delivery, and the ability to juggle multiple stories seamlessly. You should be familiar with creating content that can generate high engagement on social media. You must have a degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
