Job Overview
As a Plumbing Apprentice, you will assist licensed plumbers in installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing systems in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. This role provides hands‑on experience and training under the supervision of certified plumbers, with a goal to progress towards becoming a journeyman plumber through formal apprenticeship programs.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in Installation and Repairs :
- Help install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems (pipes, fittings, water heaters, fixtures, etc.).
- Assist with interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine layout of plumbing systems.
Material Handling :
Transport tools, materials, and equipment to job sites.Maintain clean and organized workspaces and storage areas.Fixture Installation :
Assist in installing sinks, faucets, toilets, bathtubs, showers, and other plumbing fixtures.Learn and apply proper techniques for sealing, fastening, and connecting various pipes and fittings.Leak Detection and Troubleshooting :
Assist in identifying and repairing leaks, blockages, and malfunctions in plumbing systems.Perform pressure tests, diagnostics, and basic troubleshooting tasks.Compliance and Safety :
Follow safety protocols and building codes as outlined by Ontario and municipal regulations.Assist with ensuring all installations meet Ontario Plumbing Code standards.On-the-Job Learning :
Participate in formal and informal training programs.Gain knowledge of plumbing tools, techniques, materials, and systems.Customer Service :
Communicate clearly and professionally with clients and co-workers.Assist with providing accurate time estimates for plumbing work and projects.Qualifications
Education : High school diploma or equivalent.Experience : Previous experience in construction or manual labor is an asset but not required.Skills :
Good manual dexterity and physical stamina.Basic knowledge of tools and machinery.Ability to read and interpret blueprints is a plus.Certifications : Enrollment in a recognized plumbing apprenticeship program or willingness to enroll.Driver's License : Valid G-class driver's license in Ontario.Other : Must be able to lift heavy materials, work in various weather conditions, and stand for long periods.Additional Notes
