What we are looking for :

The Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner with mental health experience and experience working with children and adolescents supports the vision, strategic direction, leadership, operational management and clinical practices at Markham-Stouffville Hospital.

The Mental Health Clinic is an outpatient clinic that provides consultation and longitudinal care to child and adolescent patients with mental health issues.

The NP will work to full scope to practice within the interprofessional team model. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for direct patient care in a consultative / collaborative model, as well as participation in staff education and research, and program evaluation.

The NP provides patient care in accordance with legislative acts and frameworks guiding NP practice such as those from the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), the Regulated Health Professionals Act (RHPA), the Public Hospitals Act, the Nursing Act and established medical directives.

The NP will demonstrate competency to autonomously diagnose, order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe pharmaceuticals and perform procedures within the RN(EC) legislated scope of practice and designated medical directives, as appropriate.

Telephone follow-up post-discharge, external capacity building exercises, weekend and after-hours coverage may be required.

What you bring to the role :

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing
  • Current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario as an RN (EC) - Nurse Practitioner-Primary Health Care (PHCNP)
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of previous experience with assessment and treatment in a child and adolescent mental health & addictions setting.

Urgent care and addictions experience preferred.

Clinical experience in working with children and adolescents who experience a mental health diagnosis and may have a history of trauma and / or medical comorbidities.

Some experience / training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and / or Dialectical Behavioural Therapy. Some experience with ASD is an asset.

  • Membership in the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario
  • Membership in the Nurse Practitioner Association of Ontario, preferred
  • National certification in Mental Health from the Canadian Nurses Association (or similar), preferred
  • Advanced clinical knowledge and implementation of evidence-based practice
  • Superior interpersonal, coaching, and leadership skills
  • Excellent decision making, problem recognition and problem solving skills
  • Experience in synthesis and documentation of comprehensive findings for consultation reports
  • Demonstrated commitment and openness to continuing professional development and education
  • Collaborative team member within an interdisciplinary team
  • Participation in Hospital / Mental Health type initiatives
  • Experience interacting with interprofessional students
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, Meditech,
  • Familiar and comfortable with technology-assisted healthcare delivery, for eg Zoom for healthcare
  • Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
  • Demonstrated commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required

Work Schedule :

The successful candidate will be required to work Monday to Friday days (9am-5pm), with some flexibility required as per clinic / patient needs.

Schedules may change based on departmental needs.

Compensation :

Salary Band C : $53.39 - $69.27 per hour

Annually : $104,110.50 - $135,076.50
