Our client is currently seeking an experienced Unix / Linux Consultant
Responsibilities:
· Manage and administer operating systems and their corresponding or associated software. AIX, HP-UX, Solaris, Linux.
· Apply required O/S patches, firmware upgrades and configuration changes
· Participate in the problem identification/resolution and root cause analysis process for Unix Infrastructure
· Manage communications and connections including VPN and VLAN.
· Manage and ensure the integrity of host computers.
· Verify firewall configurations and rule sets.
· Distribute and monitor server storage space allotments.
· Analyze system network and application usage and plan for growth.
· Assist with the maintenance and connectivity of all workstations.
· Assist with the management of registries of all network and system components that include technical specifications and maintenance/warranty agreements.
· Administer and maintain end-user accounts, permissions and access rights.
· Develop and execute optimal system/data backup and recovery strategies.
· Provide troubleshooting/problem resolution for system and network related issues.
· Review system logs and implement system housekeeping tools to maximize system performance.
· Provide information and recommendations regarding system performance and perform capacity planning that includes consideration of new technologies to improve/enhance current methods and procedures.
· Provide statistics and reports as required.
Requirements:
· 2-3 years experience in a Linux support role
· Knowledge of system security log facilities init and startup processes
· Excellent Shell Scripting Skills
· Working understanding of:
· Linux/UNIX, notable RHEL or CENTOS.
· TCP/IP and associated services (e.g., DNS, DHCP)
· Apache/Tomcat/JBoss or other web services
· Exceptional troubleshooting skills
· Ability to work well under pressure
· Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment
