Ajax Creative is seeking a highly skilled Director for a full-time In-House position. This role is ideal for an experienced commercial filmmaker with a rare blend of creative leadership, treatment design, post‑production fluency, and international directing experience. The Director will guide the creative vision of commercial and branded content campaigns from pitch to final delivery, ensuring the highest standards of storytelling, visual execution, and client satisfaction.

This position requires a multidisciplinary creative with advanced experience in treatments, pre‑production process, on‑set directing, editing, motion graphics, and post‑production supervision.

Key Responsibilities

Creative Development & Treatment Design

• Develop strong conceptual approaches aligned with client marketing and branding objectives.
• Prepare visually compelling, professionally designed treatments using tools like Pitch, Canva, Adobe Suite, and other design platforms.
• Collaborate with producers and writers to refine scripts, storyboards, and messaging strategies.
• Write and shape campaign copy when needed to support the creative direction.

Directing & Production Leadership

• Direct commercial productions across lifestyle, automotive, fashion, animation, and social‑experiment formats.
• Lead on‑set creative execution, including actor direction, DP collaboration, visual continuity, and performance shaping.
• Oversee casting, location scouting, and talent selection to ensure creative alignment with each project.
• Maintain a professional and positive environment for cast and crew.

Post‑Production Collaboration

• Work closely with editors, colourists, VFX artists, and animators to achieve the intended tone, pacing, and visual style.
• Review and provide detailed feedback on edits, graphics, and finishing stages.
• Supervise post‑production pipelines to ensure technical excellence and brand consistency.

Technical & Creative Execution

• Apply hands‑on editing ability for internal cuts, pitch editors, and client presentations (DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro).
• Provide creative direction for 2D animation, motion graphics, and soft VFX (screen replacements, light retouching, compositing).
• Bring colour‑grading literacy to early‑stage look development and client pitches.
• Work with 360º camera content when required.

Client Communication & Industry Engagement

• Communicate directly with clients to align on goals, storytelling direction, and brand voice.
• Present, pitch, and defend creative visions to agency and brand stakeholders.
• Maintain strong professional relationships with producers, DPs, and global creative partners.

What You Bring

Required Skills & Experience

• The ideal candidate must demonstrate a rare, multidisciplinary profile including:
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Film, Media Production, or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of professional directing experience in commercial advertising or branded content.
• A strong portfolio of completed commercial work for established brands.
• Demonstrated ability to create high‑quality visual treatments with expert‑level design and storytelling capabilities.
• Strong editing background, with experience cutting commercials, short films, episodic content, and branded projects.
• Technical proficiency in DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, and similar creative tools.
• Experience supervising or executing animation, motion graphics, and soft VFX.
• Understanding of colour grading workflows and look‑building.
• Experience directing projects that require multi‑camera setups, 360 workflows, hidden‑camera formats, or social‑experiment style productions.
• Proven success directing commercials in sectors such as automotive, lifestyle, fashion, furniture, technology, and retail.
• Experience working on productions outside Canada (Europe, USA, or multi‑regional projects).
• Ability to collaborate across multicultural environments and international crews.
• Exceptional communication, leadership, and team‑management capabilities.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and calmness under pressure.
• Ability to manage tight deadlines, shifting production needs, and client expectations.
• Highly organized and detail‑oriented approach to creative development and execution.

Bonus / Ideal Qualifications

• Awards, festival selections, or industry recognition for directing, editing, or creative storytelling.
• Experience writing or contributing to campaign copy and messaging.
• Ability to build or influence brand voice through strong narrative vision.
• Experience with social‑experiment or documentary‑hybrid commercial formats.
• Experience with automotive brands
• Experience on international commercial sets (e.g., Europe, U.S., Asia).
