Overview
This is a temporary position from June 8th to September 4th. We are looking for experienced and dynamic staff to lead our team this summer in Youth Drop‑in Programming. As part of the team you will help create a variety of activities for youth ages 12-17. You will be responsible for supporting multiple staff teams as they provide active recreation, social and leadership opportunities in a fun and relaxed environment across the City.
Responsibilities
- Interacts with staff, participants, parents / caregivers, community members / agencies, and provides program information and support.
- Assists in the delivery training of Youth Leaders.
- Implements established policies and procedures for youth programs.
- Purchases supplies.
- Assists with annual review and evaluation of programs.
- Assesses programs and makes recommendations for future programming.
- Contacts guest speakers as required.
- Submits ongoing paperwork (e.g., time sheets for payroll, parent packages, accident / incident reports, attendance).
- Responds to participants immediate concerns / needs and communicates to parents / caregivers and other staff / supervisor daily to ensure the safety and enjoyment of participants during programming (environment, equipment / supplies, behaviour, emergency procedures, etc.).
- Acts on‑site as a resource to staff regarding program planning, conflict resolution and behaviour management. Ensures that staff provide safe and age appropriate activities in programs.
- Consults with Inclusion Coordinator and staff on behaviour management and developmental issues. Directs parents / caregivers to Inclusion Services in order to arrange one‑on‑one support.
- Adheres to policies established for City of Kitchener facilities when applying sound judgment in assessing, responding to and reporting situations related to participants (e.g., behaviour management / conflict, accident / incidents, facility issues, patron needs, etc.) calmly and effectively.
- Coordinates the location and activities.
- Assists with writing final summer report prior to completion of program.
- Provides first aid as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education
Grade 12 diplomaExperience
3 months of related experience working or volunteering with youth in a group setting.Experience in leading staff in a youth programming environment, providing coaching and support.Experience in developing, implementing and reviewing program plans to produce an entertaining program for participants.Additional Requirements
Standard First Aid and CPR Level "C" Certification.Valid G2 Drivers License.Access to reliable transportation.Must be 18 years old by start of employment.Vulnerable sectors check issued following the date of offer of employment.Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
