Senior Information Security Analyst - (00499.5)

As a Senior Information Security Analyst, you’ll be a key defender of TRU’s digital environment. You’ll work at both the strategic and hands‑on level—designing security solutions, monitoring threats, responding to incidents, and helping shape the university’s overall security posture. This role collaborates closely with internal teams, external partners, and national cybersecurity communities.
What you will do
Security Leadership & Strategy
- Represent TRU in provincial and federal cybersecurity initiatives and communities, including BCNET, CANHEIT, and REN-ISAC
- Advise the Director, Information Security on emerging threats, industry best practices, and improvements to TRU’s security posture
- Contribute to enterprise risk assessments and provide clear, actionable mitigation recommendations
Design, Implementation & Operations
Design, implement, and maintain security solutions protecting systems, networks, and institutional dataEnsure effective deployment and configuration of security tools, working with contractors, auditors, and internal teamsCreate and maintain clear documentation for security architectures, procedures, and protocolsMonitor systems for suspicious activity and intrusions, taking immediate corrective action when requiredLead and coordinate incident response efforts, including identification, containment, eradication, recovery, and post‑incident reviewsConduct regular vulnerability assessments and penetration testing to proactively identify weaknessesLead or participate in security‑related projects across the universityMentor and support intermediate and junior security team members, fostering continuous learningCommunicate complex security concepts clearly to non‑technical stakeholdersStay current with evolving cybersecurity threats, tools, and technologiesEngage in professional development through certifications, training, and conferences (including presenting where appropriate)What You Bring
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related fieldExperience
5+ years in Information Technology, including 3+ years in a dedicated information security roleHands‑on experience with :Firewalls, IDS / IPS, SIEM platforms, encryption technologies, and post‑incident forensicsPenetration testing and purple team methodologiesSkills & Knowledge
Authentication and identity technologies (CASB, SAML, OAuth, Shibboleth, Active Directory, LDAP)Secure coding practices, threat modelling, and security testing methodologiesCryptographic protocols and applied encryption toolsDesigning security architectures that balance protection with operational needsKnowledge of regulatory and security frameworks (FOIPPA, PCI‑DSS, ISO 27001, NIST)Scripting / programming experience (Python, PowerShell, Bash)Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical risk into business‑friendly languageExcellent time management and ability to prioritize in fast‑moving environmentsWhat to Expect

Pay Band : CA$34.52 / hr – CA$38.35 / hr (CUPE Grade 10 (90% – 100%))
Market Supplement : This position is eligible for an annual market supplement of $22,309.56 (or $858.06 per pay period) as per the TRU / CUPE LOU on Market Supplements that is set to be reviewed on February 9, 2027.
Remote Work : This is a fully remote position subject to the Work from Home LOU in the TRU / CUPE Collective Agreement. The successful applicant may work from a remote location from anywhere within the province of British Columbia.
