Regular Full-time (35 Hours / Week)

Grid 28 ($47.04- $49.17)

Opportunity

The PCRS Independent School Principal / Teacher will work with school staff and be the main contract with the Ministry of Education.

They will ensure all policy, procedures, reporting, academic and curriculum meets high standards for our students as per the Independent School Act.

The principal role is significantly administrative and requires a strong understanding of the Independent School Act and Ministry of Education requirements to ensure appropriate funding and maintaining standards to ensure compliance.

Primary Duties :

Lead the teaching and support staff,

Support the curriculum for Grades 8-12 that meets or exceeds Ministry of Education standards and guidelines.

  • Support the operations of the school as directed by PCRS Management and Directors
  • Develop and input innovative community-based learning activities for students to bring their learning into the real world.
  • Maintain proper program records, including report cards.
  • Ensuring submission of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to the Ministry of Education as required and prior to deadline.
  • Ensure all content is culturally appropriate, sensitive, and significant. Consulting with community partners and elders regarding culture and language as necessary;
  • Provide program evaluation input, leading inspections, and audits in collaboration with the manager.
  • Leading the creation and maintenance of Individual Education Plans.

The successful applicant will enjoy working a flexible schedule to accommodate students. This may include occasional evenings and weekends.

A remote work agreement is not offered for this role.

Please note staff are expected to utilize the majority of their vacation time during school break periods. The school runs from Sept 1 to July 31. .

Qualifications :

  • VALID BC TEACHING CERTIFICATE OF QUALIFICATION
  • A specialty in English and Applied Design, Skills, & Technologies is an asset.
  • Teaching experience, specifically working with youth aged 13-19
  • Five plus years of teaching experience, specifically working with youth aged 13-19
  • One plus years of administrative experience
  • Ability to teach and support student learning in core subjects for grades 8 to 12.
  • Awareness of issues surrounding inner-city education and diversity
  • Fluency in a second language is an asset.
  • Experience working with students with learning disabilities, special education teaching is an asset.
  • Valid BC Driver’s licence, use of personal vehicle is required with paid mileage.
