Overview
This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, monitoring, troubleshooting, and repair of refrigeration systems and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems within the limitations of the Energy Act, in the City of Kitchener buildings. Responsibilities
- Schedule and perform regular equipment and maintenance verification on HVAC equipment.
- Test and maintain water treatment program.
- Assist in the updating of files and records as it relates to HVAC equipment.
- Conduct seasonal startups and changeovers.
- Diagnose cause of problems and / or failures in refrigeration and HVAC systems.
- Test performance of HVAC and refrigeration units.
- Diagnose / install building control systems.
- Service and maintain gas‑fired equipment.
- Interact with building personnel to ascertain problems and locations of needed work.
- Respond to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service during regular hours, for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
- Assist in the commissioning of new, reconditioned, or repaired equipment in existing and new facilities.
- Inspect installation / repairs performed by outside contractors for conformance to specifications.
- Perform on‑call duties and emergency work as required.
Education
Minimum Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.Additional Requirements
Must have a Province of Ontario Certificate of Qualification (The Apprenticeship and Tradesmen's Act) Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic 313A.Possess a valid TSSA Gas Technician 1 Certification.Possess an O.D.P. (Ozone Depletion Prevention) card.Possess a Glass "G" Driver's License in good standing.Willing to work various shifts to accommodate work schedules or special projects.Able to work with a minimum amount of supervision.Able to read mechanical blueprints and drawings.Successfully complete required progression criteria as it relates to this job title.Reliable with good attitude and employment record.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Working knowledge and understanding of building, electrical, and plumbing codes.Customer service focused attitude and successfully complete Customer Service testing.Experience with computerized energy management and preventative maintenance systems.Seniority Level
