Description :

The Registered Practical Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care in a multidisciplinary, family centred care environment.

The ideal candidate will bring a confident and resourceful attitude in the face of challenges, and have the motivation to deliver results in a complex and demanding environment.

Qualifications :

• Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing);
• Registered Practical Nurse Diploma from an accredited community college;
• Minimum of one year of recent (within two years) Birthing Centre experience Ante Partum, Post Partum (Combined Care) ;
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification (Ontario Heart & Stroke guidelines preferred);
• Aseptic technique course;
• Experience scrubbing for a caesarean section an asset;
• Education or demonstrated experience in : insertion and removal of urinary catheters and removal of intravenous;
• Competent and able to perform CPR at a Basic Cardiac Life Support level;
• Demonstrated pattern of good attendance and work record;
• Breastfeeding course or demonstrated experience an asset;
• Completion of Neonatal Resuscitation, Health Assessment and Medication courses;
• Demonstrated experience in performing electrocardiograms (ECGs) an asset;
• Demonstrated experience in performing venipuncture an asset;
• Demonstrated skills in providing patient education and sharing knowledge of expected outcomes and care;
• Demonstrated ability to set priorities and provide care in a fast paced, high pressure environment;
• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to communicate effectively and collaborate well with patients, families, other care providers and the community
• Demonstrated excellent documentation skills;
• Demonstrated ability to effectively work - independently and within a multidisciplinary team and exercise sound judgement;
• Ability to perform essential duties of the position and all RPN nursing and related duties to the full scope of their practice ;

• Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public;and

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :

The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and C.U.P.E Local 6364.

Successful External applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.
