Job purpose

The H&S Coordinator is responsible for supporting the development, implementation and maintenance of health and safety programs to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.

H&S coordinator should be well-versed in all OSH dictations. The associate’s work will be focused on prevention. The associate needs to be diligent and analytical.

You will possess a keen eye for detail and a sensitivity for potential dangers.

This role involves conducting risk assessments, coordinating safety training, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, and promoting a culture of safety within the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

The associate’s primary functions and responsibilities are as follows :

  • Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal safety regulations.
  • Support the implementation of safety programs, including Lockout Tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, and ergonomic assessments.
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards.
  • Recommend corrective actions to eliminate or reduce risks.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of hazard controls and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Coordinate and deliver safety training sessions for employees and management.
  • Develop training materials and maintain training records.
  • Ensure that all employees are aware of their safety responsibilities and understand the company’s safety policies.
  • Assist in investigating workplace accidents, injuries, and near-misses.
  • Prepare detailed reports on incidents and recommend preventive measures.
  • Track and analyze safety data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Maintain safety records and documentation as required by law.
  • Assist in preparing for external audits and regulatory inspections.
  • Support the development and maintenance of emergency response plans.
  • Coordinate emergency drills and ensure all employees are trained on emergency procedures.
  • Act as a point of contact during emergencies and coordinate the response.
  • Promote a positive safety culture within the organization through communication, training, and recognition programs.
  • Work with management and employees to foster a proactive approach to safety.
  • Participate in safety committees and contribute to ongoing safety initiatives.
  • Serve as a Fire Safety Team Member.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
  • Follow Health and Safety rules and regulations.
  • Must follow G ood M anufacturing P ractices, Food Safety, and Food Defense guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably in (industry, e.g., manufacturing, Automotive).
  • Experience with safety programs such as Lockout Tagout (LOTO), hazard communication, and emergency response.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations and standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to conduct training and presentations effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Working conditions

  • Always work indoors.
  • Compliant with ventilation, cleanliness, space, lighting, and temperature.
  • Occasional travel to different company locations may be required.
