Job Description : Q-Block Computing is seeking an Optical Thin-Film Engineer to join our innovative team in Canada. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of cutting-edge quantum technologies in sensing, communication, and computation.
The candidate will join Q-Block Computing to lead the efforts in ultra-low-loss optical thin film deposition.
Job summary : As an Optical Thin-Film Engineer, you will collaborate with other team members and achieve technical milestones under the guidance of senior leaders.
Job duty includes the process optimization and characterization of ultra-low-loss optical thin films by way of reactive Ion-Beam Sputter (IBS) deposition techniques.
Responsibilities
- Optical thin film growth : Reactive IBS deposition and characterization (ellipsometry, XRD, laser-based transmission measurement, optical profilometer, AFM, SEM, photoluminescence spectroscopy, and cavity-ringdown spectroscopy).
- Cleanroom organization and maintenance.
- General shop maintenance and SOP development.
- Collaborate with cross-functional R&D teams.
- Contribute to a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing within the team.
Qualification
- Masters / PhD in Physics, Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years professional experience in optical thin film growth with a strong preference on IBS techniques.
Skills
- Basic knowledge of nanofabrication, optical physics, and material science.
- Ability to travel between Edmonton and Wetaskiwin facilities.
- General cleanroom maintenance and organization.
- Strong attention to detail, authenticity, and a sense of responsibility in all tasks
- Critical thinking and problem-solving mindset
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaborative in a dynamic team environment
