MANAGER, LABOUR RELATIONS INTERPRETATION & DOCUMENTATION

Vancouver Island & Lower Mainland

The opportunity

As part of the Division’s management team, this brand new position of Manager Labour Relations Interpretation & Documentation has broad influence on BC Ferries’ key strategic and operational decisions on human resources issues, priorities, systems, processes, performance indicators, human resources and budgets.

As the Manager Labour Relations Interpretation & Documentation, you engage in a constructive union-management relationship through the interpretation of collective bargaining agreements and employment related legislations, and jurisprudence.

You also support the collective bargaining process. This includes supporting, coordinating and acting as subject matter resource in the collective bargaining process, advising management on the interpretation and application of the collective agreement, and supporting designates, as required, in the grievance process.

The Role

Reporting to the Executive Director, Labour Relations, you add value to the team by key areas of oversight such as :

  • Participating as a member of the Labour Relations team in the development of policies, procedures, guidelines, standards, and strategies to guide management in conducting human resources activities
  • Providing Corporate People and Safety leadership with regards to strategy, policy, design, development, implementation and continuous improvement of the areas related to the mandate of the work unit, ensuring that the frameworks, policies and practices align with and support the achievement of strategic objectives and business plans including HR’s implementation plan
  • Providing strategic advice to senior management on various HR management disciplines related to the work unit
  • Maintaining up-to-date on any changes on Federal or Provincial labour laws that could impact on working conditions of locally engaged staff.

Analyzing these changes and makes recommendations on their implementation

What you bring to the team

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Labour and Employment Relations, Industrial Relations, Human Resources, and Business.
  • Master’s Degree in Business Administrations, Labour and Employment Relations, Human Resources, or related discipline is an asset
  • 4-6 years of progressive experience in a labour relations role
  • Extended knowledge and the demonstrated ability to interpret and apply Provincial and Federal employment related legislations, regulations, and related areas of law
  • Thorough understanding of general law and statutory interpretation principles in order to understand and advise on previously complex and unfamiliar legal issues
  • 4-6 years of experience carrying out complex legal research and analysis is preferred
  • 4-6 years of experience providing advice in complex and precedent-setting cases is preferred

Additional information

The target salary range : $102,200 - $127,700 per annum. The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience and internal equity.

Starting salary may exceed the target range on exceptional basis.
