Position Title : Senior Investigator, Market Conduct
Reports To : Director, Compliance
Department : Legal & Compliance
Term : Permanent Full-Time
Work Arrangements : This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month.
You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.
The Opportunity : Equitable is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented professional to add to our expert compliance team as Senior Investigator of Market Conduct Reporting to the Director, Compliance, the successful candidate will skillfully support the compliance department’s distributor conduct and anti-money laundering programs.
Key responsibilities include leading complex advisor investigations, developing and enhancing the distributor conduct and AML programs, and providing support to internal and external reporting.

What you will be doing :
- Develop and maintain procedures for the market conduct monitoring program, including trending and analysis, exception reporting, advisor / MGA activity reports, investigative processes, and applicable internal, external, and regulatory reporting.
- Conduct advisor investigations through data analysis, file reviews, interviewing and communicating with clients, advisors, agencies, and other parties involved.
- Evaluate quality of all lines of business through data analysis and trending by monitoring various reports including but not limited to : sales trends, persistency, complaint and investigative history, commission trends, charge backs, policy changes, mix of business, DSC, and replacement monitoring.
- Act as primary contact for inquiries from regulatory bodies and law enforcement agencies regarding market conduct issues.
- Prepare and present executive summaries for Compliance team and Advisor Monitoring Committee.
- Provide distributor conduct and money-laundering detection education and training to Equitable Life staff.
- Handle extremely sensitive materials with the strictest confidentiality and privacy.
- Implement measures to detect and deter money laundering and terrorist financing including transaction monitoring programs, staff training and awareness, and case-by-case guidance.
- Develop, monitor, and investigate due diligence monitoring reports, high risk clients, and suspicious transaction reports.
What you will bring :
- 5+ years of experience with insurance (Life & Health) and investment products, administration, and marketing; and investigation experience preferably related to life insurance industry.
- 3+ years of related experience in a legal or compliance role.
- University or college degree, preferably in law, criminology, or business administration.
- Strong knowledge and experience to identify and resolve compliance issues and the relationship skills to manage client service requests in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Strong experience in relevant issues, laws, regulations, and guidelines affecting compliance in the life insurance industry.
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization, strong analytical, organizational, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- LOMA, LLQP, financial planning, financial crime investigation, fraud examiner, AML(CAMS), and / or compliance designations / courses beneficial.
- Experience managing a distributor conduct and / or AML program would be an asset.
- Bilingual (French) capabilities would be an asset
