Lakeridge Health (LH) operates multiple hospitals and health care locations and is dedicated to providing high-quality care and positive patient experiences. LH is home to regional centres including the R.S. McLaughlin Durham Regional Cancer Centre, Pinewood Centre for addictions and mental health, and The Shoulder Centre. The Emergency Departments see approximately 100,000 visits annually. This opportunity is for a Physician Assistant (PA) Graduate to join the Emergency Department team as part of a new PA program, aligned with LH’s vision One System, Best Health and our values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide clinical services under the direct supervision of ED staff physicians and support the patient experience.
• Obtain health and social histories; conduct physical assessments and interpret findings.
• Activate medical directives and interpret diagnostic tests, including ECGs, laboratory tests, and diagnostic imaging.
• Perform procedures such as ECG, casting, suturing, application of orthopedic devices, slit lamp examination, measuring intraocular pressure, and assessing visual acuity.
• Formulate treatment plans and support connections to consultants, allied health, outpatient clinics, and other services as needed.
• Document patient encounters and support health care technology and applications (e.g., Connecting Ontario, Clinical Information System, Order Set repository, bedside ultrasound).
• Work as an integrated member of the health care team to support the ED Physician, with a focus on lifelong learning, quality improvement, patient safety and collaborative team-based care.
