Position Summary

Assist the leadership team with project-level monitoring, reporting, and compliance related to the Maintenance Rating Program (MRP) and the Safety Plan.

Will also provide leadership on health, safety, environmental, and quality (HSE) requirements for the Project.

Please note that this position does not start until 2025.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set the Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) standard and lead by example, with the mindset of being a trusted partner - a collaborative mindset versus an enforcement mindset.
  • Serve as an HSE subject matter expert for the project / site operational leadership.
  • Lead, model, and coach proper techniques for conducting Job Safety Analysis USA) Crew Meetings, weekly safety meetings / toolbox talks, and safety stand-down lessons learned reviews.
  • Conduct worksite HSE jobsite observations to ensure compliance with federal, provincial / state, and local regulations and company, project, and site requirements.
  • Use mentoring and coaching techniques to correct HSEissues and hold crucial conversations with operations and HSE leaders when deficiencies aren't appropriately corrected.

Ensure jobsite observations are documented in the company-specified safety management system.

  • Assist in developing and update the Project or Site-Specific HSE Plan, ensuring applicable corporate HSE policy and procedural changes and appropriate lessons learned and corrective actions are incorporated.
  • Assist in developing task / situation-specific Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and JSA documents.
  • Assist in developing and conduct HSE training and meetings, ensuring the required information is entered into the learning management system.
  • Assist in investigating and analyze good catches, close calls, and incidents, determining root causes, contributing factors, and developing and communicating lessons learned through incident reports and weekly safety meetings.

These must be documented in the company-specified safety management system.

  • Assist in tracking required HSEstatistical data, using it to plan improvement initiatives and provide relevant and actionable information to operational and HSE leaders.
  • Provide emergency care evaluation and first aid, when required, ensure injured worker is medically evaluated and treated, if needed, and oversee case management follow-up as it relates to the return to work and restricted duty programs.
  • Assist in the implementation of the Corporate Fit for Duty Program.
  • Assist in setup and maintenance of HSEQ administrative files.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory of HSEQ and first aid supplies, as needed.
  • Communicate daily activities to operational and HSEQ leaders.
  • Safety comes first! Required to complete work in a safe, efficient and accurate manner.
  • Other duties (not listed) may be assigned to this job at any time.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to influence people and achieve results in a matrix reporting environment.
  • Appropriately communicate, both verbally and in writing, to different type of audiences, such as field employees, managers, executives, and clients.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all relevant federal, state / provincial, local, company, and client HSEQ standards.
  • Must be able to collaborate, negotiate, troubleshoot, and problem solve with field employees and operational, HSEQ, and client leaders.
  • Must be able to bridge any gaps that may develop between HSEQ expectations and field practice.
  • Ability to recognize and risk-rank hazards associated with routine and non-routine tasks, stopping the work when necessary to mitigate risk and ensure HSEQ compliance.
  • Ability to manage and organize multiple priorities while maintaining a positive, customer service focus. The customers range from the boots on the ground workers to operational and client leaders.
  • Demonstrate a high level of attention to detail.
  • Pass DMV, background, and drug screen.
  • Work efficiently with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Education and Experience

  • 2+ years of infrastructure or maintenance industry experience.
  • 1+ years of experience in construction or general industry HSE leadership.
  • Associate degree / college diploma or working towards a Bachelor's degree in a safety-related area of study (can be substituted for equivalent additional experience).
  • Possess or be working toward a professional HSE credential, such as ASP, CSP, CRSP, or OHST.
  • Valid driver's license with an exemplary driving record.

Work Conditions / Physical Demands

  • Have the physical ability walk at least one mile in rugged, sloped terrain and lift 35 pounds unassisted.
  • Have the physical ability to reach, bend, squat, climb, stand, and sit in both hot and cold environments.
  • Must have the ability to wear the required PPE.
  • Think clearly and make sound decisions in a loud, congested environment, with multiple moving hazards.
  • Must be on-call 24 / 7 and available for rapid response during critical operations.
