Basic Function
Petro-Canada Lubricants Inc. (PCLI), an HF Sinclair company is seeking a full-time Plant Engineer. Reporting to the Team Leader, Plant Engineering, the Intermediate Plant Engineer will provide timely, high quality engineering support to their key stakeholders.
Plant Engineers are expected to collaborate with Maintenance and Operations departments in order to develop engineered solutions for piping and equipment repairs, replacements, and changes.
Job Duties
- Drive safety mindset through participation in site programs including field level risk assessments (FLRA) and safety peer observations (PPP)
- Work with a multi-disciplinary Cross Functional Team (CFT) to support mechanical, instrumentation, automation, and electrical replacements and upgrades
- Scope, design and engineer construction work packages, applying both company practices and industry codes & standards
- Collaborate with designers to create engineering documentation such as piping isometrics, Process & Instrument Diagrams (P&ID’s), and mechanical detail drawings
- Assemble engineering documentation into design packages for repairs (RIK) and improvements (MPM), including process piping, static equipment and I&E infrastructure
- Lead various projects with emphasis on development and implementation of solutions to improve safety, reliability or compliance
- Research and evaluate new technologies and applications; recommend improvement opportunities based on the evaluation and gain buy-in or consensus from stakeholders
Experience
5+ years of relatable work experience within a petrochemical refinery, operating plant or other industrial manufacturing environment is required
Education Level
A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.Sc. / B.Eng.) from a CEAB accredited institution in a relevant Engineering discipline (i.
e. Mechanical) is required. Other Engineering disciplines will be considered based on applicable experience.
Eng. designation in the Province of Ontario through the PEO (or eligible to transfer)

- Experience with using engineering software such as AutoCAD is preferred
- Knowledge of Microsoft products such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Planning & estimating experience is an asset
Supervisory / Managerial Responsibility
- Oversight of Student Intern position is possible (including resume screening, interview process, hiring, managing work assignments, and end of term evaluation)
- General mentorship of Students and Jr. (New Grad) Plant Engineers
Work Conditions
- You will experience a mix of office work and field visits (approx. 75% / 25% split) in an industrial manufacturing environment (outdoor) to complete assigned work This may at times include twisting, crouching, kneeling, making visual inspections, climbing stairs / ladders, and pushing / pulling objects
- Safety is our #1 Priority all required training and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided as part of on-boarding
- Excess hours may be required during planned outages or urgent / emergency situations
