Noon Hour Supervision Assistants

On-call, temporary and permanent positions available

If you enjoy working with school-aged children and only want to work part-time, working as a Supervision Assistant at SD62 could be what you are looking for.

Supervision Assistants play a vital role in the lives of children at our schools by assisting to provide a caring and safe environment for students during their non-instructional time.

Assignments range from 1 to 8 hours per week working at either an

Elementary (Grades K-5) or Middle (Grades 6-8) School.

The Sooke School District is the fastest growing school district on Vancouver Island and one of the fastest growing districts in British Columbia and employs approximately 1,800 staff and has a student population of over 12,000.

The District operates in five municipalities : Langford, Colwood, Metchosin, Sooke and the Highlands and acknowledges the nations on which our schools are built, including T’Sou-ke Nation, Sc'ianew Nation, Pacheedaht Nation, and all South Island Coast Salish Nations, specifically Esquimalt Nation and Songhees Nation.

What we offer

A starting wage of $27.73 per hour, five hours per week, 10 months per year (September 1 to June 30)

Opportunities for other positions at the District such as custodial, school meals program coordinators, noon-hour or bus supervision assistant, crossing guards and more

Once you are permanent you will get :

Paid vacation during Winter and Spring Break (as per the CUPE Local 459 Collective Agreement)

Two (2) Professional Developments days and one (1) self-directed professional development day per school year plus access to additional funds for further professional development such as course fees

What you need to apply...

As a Supervision Assistant, we are looking for candidates that have a passion for working with children and demonstrate patience and understanding to support a welcoming and safe environment for children.

Candidates should also have the following education and experience :

Secondary school graduation

Up to three months of related experience working with school-aged children

Holds (or willing to get) a valid Occupational First Aid - Level 1 Certificate

Willing to authorize the completion of a required Criminal Record Check

QUALIFICATIONS :

Grade 12 graduation or equivalent.

Three months of experience and over.

Patience with, and care for, students and a demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed.

Ability to follow school district policy and procedures.

Be able to follow school Code of Conduct and reinforce the values to children.

An ability to work well with other adults.

A desire to help children.

Self-assurance and a well modulated voice with the ability to speak fluently and communicate well.

Appreciation of the confidential nature of all information relating to students, parents and teachers.

Holder of a valid Occupational First Aid - Level One Certificate.

RESPONSIBLE TO : Principal

JOB GOAL : To assist in providing a well organized, supervised school environment in which students can take full advantage of their non-instructional time.

Performance Responsibilities :

Assists administration in duties relating to supervision of students during non-instructional time.

Dispenses first aid and tends to children in sick room.

Responsible for lunch, snack and clean-up routines.

May assist children with clothing and dressing as required.

Performs related work as required such as bus loading and unloading.
