About Invictus Games 2025 :
The Invictus Games is a biennial international adaptive sporting competition for wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans from around the world.
Through the power of sport, the Games inspire recovery, support rehabilitation, and generate a wider understanding and respect for those who have served their country.
The Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 will take place from February 8 to 16, 2025, on the traditional territories of the Lil ̓ wat7 ú l (L í l ̓ wat), x ʷ m ə θ k ʷə y ̓ə m (Musqueam), S ḵ wx ̱ w ú 7mesh (Squamish) and s ə lilw ə ta ɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
Over 500 wounded, injured and sick service personnel and Veterans from more than 20 nations are set to compete in a wide range of adaptive sports, including adaptive winter sports, for the first time in Invictus Games history.
The Vancouver Whistler Games Corporation (VWGC) is a Canadian not-for-profit organization established to organize and host the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025.
The Role
The Sports Coordinator supports the Manager of Sport with the operational planning and delivery of assigned sport(s) for the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025.
The position will be accountable for supporting the planning and delivery of the sport operations including field of play layout, sport equipment, competitor training scheduling, officials and sport specific volunteers.
The Sports Coordinator will work closely with local, provincial, national and international sport organizations.
Potential assigned sports include : wheelchair basketball, indoor rowing, sitting volleyball, wheelchair rugby, swimming, and wheelchair curling.
Key Areas of Responsibility :
- Responsible for leading the planning, delivery and management of assigned sports.
- Assist with workforce planning and scheduling.
- Ensure the sport competition is planned and delivered in accordance with Invictus Games Foundation rules and regulations.
- Assist with the integration of timing, scoring and results.
- Support the development of sport specific competition and training schedules.
- Assist with the identification and procurement of sport equipment to successfully deliver sports competition.
- Work in alignment with the Lead Categorizer and Invictus Games Foundation as required.
- Manage sports personnel and volunteers.
- Ensure clear communication and timely information sharing within the sport team and cross Functional Areas.
- Ensure that a sense of community is established within the sport team.
- At Games time, oversee the delivery of the sport competition and act as a key contact for the assigned sport.
- Other functional based operational delivery as required for the project;
Qualifications, Skills, Competencies :
- 1+ years experience in sport competition. Preferred multi-sport experience and / or adaptive.
- Experience in the project management, planning and delivery of sport competition.
- Knowledge of Games & venue operations, policies and procedures within any functional area.
- Experience leading and managing a dynamic team of sport volunteers.
- Excellent computer skills across the Microsoft suite of programs. Experience with Smartsheet would be an advantage.
- Ability to make decisions in accordance with Games Operation’s procedures, policies and contingency plans.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Flexibility to the changes in the Games environment.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and complete them in a timely manner.
- Ability to support and maintain safe working framework at the venue.
- Ability to identify problems / issues and find the best solution to resolve them timely.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and manage relationships in a diverse, multi-stakeholder environment.
- Results-focused with the ability to operate in a deadline-driven, high pressure environment.
- Passion for or understanding of the lnvictus Games mission and / or the Canadian military, and fluency in French (verbal and written) are assets.
