We are currently seeking an Assistant Controller for our Head Office who will be responsible for overseeing full-cycle project accounting, supporting month-end and year-end close processes, and ensuring accurate financial reporting for development and construction projects. This role leads and mentors a small finance team, supports internal controls and compliance, and drives continuous process improvements while collaborating closely with internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Oversee full-cycle project accounting for development and construction projects, including construction billing, accounts payable, and bank reconciliations
• Lead, manage, and mentor a team of 2–5 finance staff, providing guidance and performance support
• Maintain accurate project documentation, including contracts, change orders, and supporting records
• Review and authorize the allocation and transfer of expenses to and from project-related accounts
• Review, assess, and approve overhead allocations applied to projects
• Analyze project financial performance, investigate variances, and prepare clear variance reports for management
• Oversee and ensure timely payment of contracts, change orders, and purchases in accordance with agreed-upon terms
• Play an active role in month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, variance analysis, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
• Assist with tax compliance, including monthly tax filings
• Support the documentation, implementation, and monitoring of internal controls
• Process monthly loan draw requests and related documentation
• Prepare year-end audit and tax schedules for external auditors and tax advisors
• Review and enhance policies, processes, and procedures to drive continuous improvement in efficiency and internal controls
• Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders to identify, evaluate, and resolve financial discrepancies
