Job Details

The Durham District School Board acknowledges that many Indigenous Nations have longstanding relationships, both historic and modern, with the territories upon which our school board and schools are located. Today, this area is home to many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island. We acknowledge that the Durham Region forms a part of the traditional and treaty territory of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, the Mississauga Peoples and the treaty territory of the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation. It is on these ancestral and treaty lands that we teach, live and learn.

This statement was co-created in partnership with the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island.

The Durham Forest Environmental Education Centre, located near Uxbridge, Ontario, is hiring for the position of Summer Camp Junior Counsellor. The Durham Forest Summer Camp is a wilderness summer camp program with a focus on hands-on, inquiry-based learning in nature for youth ages 7-12 years old. We're looking for a passionate leader to fill the role of Summer Camp Junior Counsellor! The successful candidate must be available to work this full-time, fixed term role from June 29, 2026 to August 21, 2026.

Job Duties

  • Assist in the development of summer camp programming, including planning and coordination
  • Work in a team to safely supervise and lead activities for campers
  • Assist Camp Counsellors in creating schedules for campers
  • Communicate in a timely and professional fashion with parents, caregivers, campers and staff

Qualifications

  • You must be at least completing Grade 10 (as of June 2026)
  • Experience working with children is an asset
  • Must be enthusiastic, energetic, and able to take on responsibility
  • Excellent communication skills

Additional Information

  • Applicants must have current First Aid, and CPR
  • Provide a current Criminal Background Check with vulnerable sector screening upon hire
