We will count on you to :
Manage the Group Benefits Technical Underwriting department. This entails coaching and mentoring of the Manager and other team members in various roles with varying levels of expertise including leadership roles and Senior Group Underwriters. Included is management of the annual performance management process for the team. This ensures that we have an engaged and productive team in place.
Work with IT and Business Solutions to maintain, improve and develop internal systems.
Review and update as required the methodology used to process monthly renewals, rate adjustments and benefit plan offerings as part of the annual renewal process.
Review and update as required workflow processes to ensure inter and intra- department efficiencies as well as an external client centric focus.
Under direction of the incumbent, develop formal underwriting strategies in support of company sales, retention and profitability objectives. This involves close collaboration with the Managing Director and Sales leaders. The incumbent is responsible for the quantitative and qualitative analysis of the Group Benefits business. Included in this is ongoing review and management of the product design and features to ensure the Victor benefits offering remains competitive.
In collaboration with the incumbent, manage the underwriting relationships with our insurance carrier partners, bringing industry credibility and knowledge of the Victor program into all discussions with our insurance partners. This includes reviewing emerging claims experience and financial results, negotiation of our annual insurance renewals and coordination of special exceptions as well as management decisions on exceptional requests as dictated by our underwriting guidelines.
Provide technical expertise on exception quotes, this includes consultation with the incumbent when required.
What you need to have :
Strong technical underwriting skills, preferably in the Group Benefits and / or Life Insurance space
Proven team or department leadership experience
