This role is temporarily eligible for a pay premium above the posted salary range that is reassessed annually. Job Description
The Valuation team is part of the Corporate Actuarial department. In this role, the candidate will participate in the main responsibilities of the team, including quarterly reserve valuations, reporting, and governance activities within a risk-management framework.
Responsibilities
- Quarterly Reserve Valuations : Establish actuarial provisions for all lines of business using appropriate assumptions and methods. Select techniques to determine unpaid claims with a thorough understanding of the business, historical product changes, and legislative reforms. Ensure provisions are calculated in accordance with current actuarial literature, legislation, and accounting standards.
- Reporting : Build meaningful reports to monitor the adequacy of actuarial provisions over time. Monitor actual losses versus expected losses monthly. Communicate and certify financial results with business partners, external auditors, AMF and OSFI. Prepare the appointed actuary report for yearly audit and peer review.
- Governance / Miscellaneous : Implement risk mitigation, risk controls, and processes, policies, and procedures for the team. Coach, develop and inspire colleagues toward reaching their goals.
