We support Indigenous communities across Canada as the custodian, agent, administrative trustee or corporate trustee of their Trusts. As a Senior Trust Officer working in a Scotia Wealth Management office, you are a trusted and experienced relationship manager responsible for supporting the company's strategy and revenue goals by profitably delivering a best in class client experience and presenting the full suite of Scotiatrust's high quality solutions to Indigenous Trust clients of Scotia Wealth Management, in accordance with your clients' needs and expectations and in compliance with policies and procedures. Supporting the Market Lead, you are also involved with identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, both inside and outside Scotia Wealth Management.

You are client-centric and entrepreneurial, with a strong sense of proactivity and effective at building and maintaining deep relationships with clients and partners alike. You are a proven, highly skilled professional with expertise in high complexity trust administration and wealth management.

Through an intimate understanding of clients' goals, needs and circumstances, you are responsible for engaging Scotiabank and Scotia Wealth Management's team of experts as needed, to deliver on total wealth strategies uniquely tailored to our clientele.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will :

  • Fulfil the role of lead relationship manager, acting as the central point of contact for all client needs.
  • Lead or participate in review meetings, including those with elected leaders (Chief & Council), community members, investment managers, and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations and proposals to a wide range of audiences and prospects.
  • Collaborate effectively and respectfully with Chief & Council, Band administrators, community trustees and other stakeholders.
  • Analyze legal, financial and accounting documents to develop action plans, proactively resolve issues and address questions from clients.
  • Implement trust management action plans and oversee the activities of direct reports (if any).
  • Proactively manage ad hoc and recurring tasks on all accounts in your care.
  • Coordinate the preparation of tax filings, financial statements and audits, as required.
  • Engage and retain internal and external experts and service providers as appropriate to provide and maintain a high standard of care and quality of service to clients.
  • Document discretionary decision-making, always ensuring that appropriate internal consultations are completed.
  • Identify and escalate potential improvements to our policies and procedures as they relate to Indigenous Trusts.
  • Provide a best in class, proactive and personalized client experience to Indigenous Trust clients and beneficiaries, exemplified by timely and accurate account administration coupled with demonstrated technical expertise, personal integrity and an ability to respond to stated and unstated client needs and concerns.
  • Build and maintain effective internal and external partnerships, with a view to providing seamless, impactful solutions across a variety of financial services disciplines.
  • Responsible for revenue collection and contributing to the branch's profitability by accurately forecasting and overseeing the timely collection of fees, including making recommendations regarding situations that may warrant a non-standard fee agreement.

New Business Development

  • Support the establishment of proactive relationships with a select number of internal partners and external stakeholders to identify and close new business opportunities.
  • Work closely with the Market Lead, internal partners and external centres of influence to assist with the closing and ongoing servicing of new Indigenous Trust solutions.
  • Support the creation and implementation of acquisition strategies, to maintain a robust prospect pipeline and generate sustainable and profitable growth.
  • Support the identification, pursuit and closing of new business opportunities, both inside and outside Scotia Wealth Management - including the preparation and presentation of business proposals.
  • Risk Management

  • Limit corporate risk exposure by ensuring that account administration is carried out proactively and in compliance with defined policies / procedures and audit standards, including the timely escalation of issues to the appropriate internal oversight groups as required.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of legislative, administrative and economic issues that impact the management of your accounts and demonstrate an ability to communicate on a broad range of legal and financial issues with clients and partners, with particular proficiency in Indigenous Trusts, and investment and taxation matters.
  • Additional Accountabilities

  • Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

  • Strong change management skills and ability to adopt technology and reporting platform changes to support operational improvements, sales management process improvements, etc.
  • Proven ability to execute against financial and business development targets and profitability measures.
  • Professional and / or industry accreditation, in addition to a relevant university degree.
  • Asset : Accreditation in legal, accountancy, financial or investment field.
  • Asset : University degree in commerce, finance, law or accounting.
  • Robust experience in estates and trusts, primarily focused on managing a book of institutional trusts as a lead relationship manager.
  • Asset : Experience working with Indigenous communities and clients.
  • Asset : Experience in project management.
  • Asset : Experience working in custody services.
  • Proven success in client relationship management for corporate, institutional or government clients.
  • Membership or commitment to participate in Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and / or National Aboriginal Trust Officers Association (NATOA).
