Webber - Seasonal Equipment Operator - Infrastructure Management - Niagara

Position Summary

The incumbent is responsible for maintaining contracted assets (roadways, medians, signs, guardrails, fences, bridges, tunnels, vegetation, etc.) through operation / use of heavy equipment, particularly during seasonal needs (i.e. snow plow operations). This role requires a high level of safety awareness and the ability to recognize hazards, communicate safety instructions, and operate equipment with attention to surrounding risks. PPE must be worn as required.

We are seeking Snow Plow / Seasonal Equipment Operators for the seasonal period of November through March. This role is based in Niagara on the Lake, St. Catharines, Thorold.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

  • For Winter Season – Removal of snow and ice using snow removal and / or sanding equipment, including salting and other seasonal maintenance on roads, bridges, etc.
  • For Summer Season – Maintain and repair highway and other surfaces including signs, guardrails, fences, lighting, potholes, striping, adding or replacing reflectors, litter and debris removal.
  • Traffic control setup and removal.
  • Transport crew and equipment to work sites.
  • Be available for emergency response rotations as needed (overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays).
  • All other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Effectively communicate (in English); both orally and in writing with co-workers and supervisor.
  • Perform basic mathematical functions.
  • Follow all policies and procedures consistently.
  • Understand instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Capable of working in an environment where demands and priorities change rapidly.
  • Work with hand and power tools, traffic control devices and mobile equipment such as tractors, graders, mowers, sweepers, augers and other equipment used for surface and right-of-way maintenance and repair.
  • Education And Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ years related work experience in construction, road maintenance, or operating equipment with DZ license.
  • Certifications and License

  • Valid Ontario Class DZ driver's license and acceptable driving record; AZ license is a plus.
  • Work Conditions / Physical Demands

  • Physical demands include standing, sitting, walking on varied surfaces; manual dexterity; lifting up to 50 pounds; use of hand tools and powered equipment.
  • Vision requirements include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Work environment may include outside weather conditions (extreme heat / cold), exposure to moisture, fumes, chemicals, insects, and variable noise levels.
