As an Archives Student with Norfolk County, you’ll support daily archival operations by assisting researchers, retrieving records, and digitizing historical materials. Your work will help preserve local history and improve public access to valuable information, directly supporting community knowledge and engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Archives Summer Student will support the Archivist in the day to day operations of the Norfolk County Archives, which includes assisting with customer service at the archives providing reference assistance and record retrieval services.

  • Assist with digitization of archival records, including photographic materials.
  • Assist with research inquiries from County staff and members of the public with support from the Archivist.
  • Clerical duties, such as compiling daily statistics, indexing records and processing archival materials.
  • Assist with the planning of an archival exhibition and other duties as required.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • College or University Student enrolled in a history, library science or other related programs with related work experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to interact with the public and assist with public research inquiries as required
  • Computer and general office skills; knowledge of MS Office. Knowledge of scanning equipment and Past Perfect an asset
  • Familiarity with archives/museum practices
  • Excellent time management, communication, and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated research skills would be an asset
  • First Aid Certification would be an asset
  • Employment is conditional upon: attendance at all training sessions, submission of required documentation/certification, adherence to the minimum age requirements and ability to meet the employment term.
  • At time of application must be enrolled in a post-secondary education institution or institution of higher learning.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act
