Job description

Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) is a multi-site organization that includes the Huntsville District Memorial Hospital Site and the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital Site, and together we provide outstanding, integrated care to support people in living their healthiest lives.

ROLE

As a Security Officer at Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) you are a vital member of the patient care team as you will protect the staff, the patient and visitors. In this role you will performs duties such as;

  • Respond to all trauma calls as a member of the team
  • Locate and report any safety hazards, and correct where possible or submit a maintenance requisition for same
  • Patrol visitor parking lots for parking violations
  • Patrol staff parking lots and provide escort at shift change times and as requested by staff on hospital property during darkness
  • Respond to complaints with regards to gates not working and to repair gates when necessary
  • Check for unlocked doors, broken glass, malfunctions of emergency codes, malfunctions of automatic lights, blocked doors, fire exits, property damage, unusual odours and smoke
  • Maintain records and stats on database of all incident reports and other documents related to security activities
  • Maintain log of lost and found items
  • Assess maintenance call-in needs, in consultation with the Nursing Coordinator, to determine the seriousness and defer until morning where possible
  • Provide cash escorts as assigned
  • Provide continual foot patrols of the Hospital, both internally and externally
  • Assists in all missing person searches according to hospital safety and security policies and procedure
  • Assist nursing staff with patient restraints as requested by the Nursing Coordinator
  • Conduct internal investigations (i.e. thefts)
  • Conduct external investigations (i.e. trespassing)

REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION(S)

  • Community College Law and Security Program or graduate of a recognized Police training facility.
  • Current Licensure as a Security Guard with the Private Security & Investigative Services branch of the Ministry of Community Safety & Correctional Services
  • Current CPR certification

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE(S)

  • Recent experience in dealing with the general public in a law and security role, preferably in Police Services and/or as a hospital Security Guard
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Regular and punctual attendance is a requirement of this position

DESIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE(S) & EDUCATION

  • Recent experience as a Security Guard in a hospital or care facility, including working with front-line clinical staff, patients, and members of the community
  • Recent experience with mental health patients in an Emergency Department, or similar care facility, such as: patient sitting, providing 1-on-1 patient observation and participating as a member of a patient care team

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Location: Multi-Site, working on site at both the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital (SMMH) located in Bracebridge and Huntsville District Memorial Hospital (HDMH) located in Huntsville. Applicants must reside within 125km of one of our hospital campuses or be willing to relocate prior to starting. *Exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis

Department: Security

Hours of Work: Must be available to work shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements per the collective agreement.
