We Are Partners!

As a Senior Estimator, you will be responsible for analyzing costs and preparing estimates for a variety of construction projects, including civil engineering, architectural, structural, electrical, and mechanical scopes. This role will lead bid preparation on larger projects and manage multiple smaller bids while providing guidance and mentorship to junior estimating staff.

  • Review project specifications, drawings, and tender documents to develop accurate and competitive estimates.
  • Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and ensure alignment with contract requirements and project specifications.
  • Coordinate pricing efforts with estimating team members to maximize bulk purchasing opportunities and cost efficiencies.
  • Manage bid day activities, including collecting subcontractor and supplier quotations, analyzing bid recaps, and distributing bid documents.
  • Ensure all pricing aligns with client requirements, project objectives, and overall bid strategy.
  • Apply research and market analysis to identify project-specific pricing for labour, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work.

Project Analysis & Risk Management

  • Conduct detailed reviews of specifications, drawings, and contract documents to identify project risks and opportunities.
  • Evaluate project requirements and develop innovative, value-driven pricing solutions.
  • Identify and communicate potential risks associated with project and contract documents.
  • Monitor and resolve issues, questions, and Requests for Information (RFIs) throughout the bid process.

Relationship Management

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Collaborate with trade partners to ensure accurate scope coverage and competitive pricing.
  • Support the company's reputation by promoting professionalism and responsiveness throughout the estimating process.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Oversee and mentor junior estimators, providing guidance throughout the estimating and bid preparation process.
  • Foster a collaborative and learning-focused environment within the estimating team.
  • Review estimates, take-offs, and bid documentation prepared by team members to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Act as a role model by sharing industry knowledge, best practices, and lessons learned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Engineering Degree or College Diploma in a construction-related discipline.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive construction estimating experience with a General Contractor.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead estimates valued up to $50 million or manage multiple concurrent smaller bids.
  • Experience estimating commercial and civil construction projects.
  • Experience preparing estimates for Construction Management (CM) and Design-Build (DB) projects.
  • Familiarity with various project delivery methods, including:
    • Lump Sum (LS)
    • Construction Management (CM)
    • Design-Build (DB)

Technical Skills

  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office.
  • Ability to learn and maintain proficiency in estimating and project management software.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, procedures, specifications, and industry practices.
  • Knowledge of quantity take-off procedures, subcontractor procurement, pricing strategies, and bid closing processes.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities.
  • Creative and solution-oriented mindset with the ability to identify value-added opportunities.

Additional Requirements

  • Access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Ability to travel to project and client sites as required.
